October Is Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Breast cancer occurs when malignant tumors develop in the breast. These cells can spread by breaking away from the original tumor and entering blood vessels or lymph vessels, which branch into tissues throughout the body. When cancer cells travel to other parts of the body and begin damaging other tissues and organs, the process is called metastasis.
- One in eight women in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime.
There's an increase of breast cancer so let's advise and teach women to do breast exams at home. It's very important that a doctor is informed early before it's too late.

How does stress trigger seizures?
We aren’t sure just why stress may trigger a seizure. Stress is an expected and unavoidable part of life. It is our body's reaction to any change that requires a physical and emotional response. Stress is known to cause worry, depression, frustration and even anger. Stress may affect people in many ways. Consider the following:
- Stress makes or releases certain hormones related to the nervous system that can impact the brain.
- Areas of the brain important for some types of seizures, for example partial seizures, are the same areas of the brain involved in emotions and responding to stress.
- Stress can cause problems sleeping which is also a seizure trigger.
- Chronic stress can lead to anxiety or depression. Sleep problems are symptoms of these mood problems. Being anxious and depressed can also worsen stress, causing a vicious cycle with more seizures and mood problems.

Study Finds, Fats In The Human Brain Could Suppress Seizures
To reach these findings, scientists used information from earlier research involving fruit flies, which found that a protein known as 'Skywalker' plays a crucial role in maintaining communication between brain cells. In the new study, researchers worked with an almost identical protein in the mind called TBC1D24. Overall, the study shows that increasing specific brain fats at the synapses of patients with a TBC1D24 mutation could be one way to stop epileptic seizures in their tracks, Medical Xpress reported.

Are You Afraid To Tell Others That You Have Epilepsy?
There's so many adults now that choose not to tell their jobs and others they have epilepsy and they continue to drive without following state laws. There's an increase of vehicular accidents, some homicide, due to people having a seizure while driving. In the state of Georgia alone, there's an increase with these type of accidents. I am here to tell you that it's not right! Years ago, a life was loss due to an accident that I caused while having a seizure while driving. It changed my entire life.
So let me say this to all of those battling with seizures, make the right decisions. You will never know when an episode may occur. Get information from a doctor, take medications as needed, notify your doctor and family when an episode has occurred, don't drive til you have been 6 months seizure-free, and don't be afraid to tell others that YOU HAVE EPILEPSY! You may never know who can possibly help you.
Don't worry about how others may look at you by telling them your battle. If they choose to not be there for you, they were not meant to be part of your life anyway. Friends, family, and those close to you should accept you for who you are, not what they want you to be. So stand strong epilepsy champions! WE ARE IN THIS TOGETHER!
