Laptop Information
Dear Parents and Students,
With laptops going home we want to make sure clear expectations are set in place. Each laptop has a school and student barcode that should be left on at all times for identification purposes.
Expectations for laptops:
1. Make sure the laptop is away from water, food, and pets.
2. Please do not fold computer over into tablet mode. Leave it in laptop mode at all times. This will help keep the laptop more secure and less likely to break.
3. Remember this is a school assigned computer and should only be used by the student to whom it is assigned. The computer should be used for academic purposes only.
4. Make sure laptops are charged before coming to school. Create a consistent charging station for the laptop. This will help locating the device easier and make sure it gets charged each night.
If laptops are left at home or come to school without a charge it is very difficult to get classwork/assignments done that day. In order to help teachers make sure students have this crucial instructional tool the following consequences will be set in place. Students will not be allowed to call home for parents to drop off laptops.
1st time: Warning to student
2nd time: Warning to student & contact with parents through email/note/phone call
3rd time: Device will stay at school the following day.
4th time: Device will stay at school for a week.
5th time: Contact with parents to decide if device should be left at school.
The Protection Plan covers:
· Parts and repair service for any system-related issues or failures resulting from normal use.
· One accidentally broken screen in a calendar year.
· One device replacement in a calendar year, in the event of either:
o An accident resulting in total loss or destruction of the device
o Theft or physical loss of the device. Stolen or lost personal mobile computing devices must be reported to school officials within 48 hours and to the Rock Hill Police or York County Sheriff’s Office.
Once the protection plan has been used parents may elect to leave the laptop at school or still take it home. If parents decide to have the student continue to take it home they assume all responsibility for damage and repairs at fair market value. If parents decide to leave it at school anything that may happen will be the responsibility of the district.
