Principal's Message
Hello ISB Families!
I am so much looking forward to meeting you and your students as the school year starts. A number of staff have been working throughout the summer finalizing schedules, preparing the building, and planning for the transition back to school. And while COVID is still with us, and necessary precautions will be taken, we are all excited to reconnect with students and resume all of the amazing things that ISB has to offer.
Being new to ISB I know it will be a learning year for myself as well, and it is the connections we forge with each other and the relationships that we build that will make this transition back successful. Students are coming back into school after a year and half of online learning, and our staff are focused on attending to the social-emotional and academic needs that each student has. The staff continually tell me what amazing students we have here, which in my mind is an indicator of the level of commitment our staff have as well as the closeness of our community. I look forward to continuing to build on this.
In this newsletter you’ll find information pertinent to our return to school, but please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions you may have.

New Staff
We have a number of new staff this year across our departments, but we wanted to highlight just a few for you.
Jack Rossing - Counselor for Grade 6 and Grade 7
Jack recently graduated from Lewis and Clark earning his Master’s of School Counseling. After a great summer spending as much time as possible outdoors, he is looking forward to engaging with our youngest students. Once the school year starts, you will be able to contact him at jack_rossing@beaverton.k12.or.us.
After earning his Master's of Social Work from PSU, Evan has worked the last 14 years with children and families in the child welfare system. He grew up in McMinnville, graduated from U of O, and spent time in Paraguay as a Peace Corps volunteer. Evan is very excited to be joining the ISB community and to get to know our school’s families. Once the school year starts, you will be able to contact him at evan_robbins@beaverton.k12.or.us.
James Ramirez - Graduation Coach
James, a recent graduate from Portland State University is joining us to support students in grades 6-12 academically and socially. He is an alumnus of ISB, and looks forward to coming back here to help us ensure all students’ success. In order to maintain balance in his life, James likes to read, go to the movies, and play guitar. You can reach him at james_ramirez@beaverton.k12.or.us.
Online Registration
Don’t forget to complete your online registration. This allows us to make sure your address, emails, phone numbers, etc. are all correct so that we know that we can reach you. Verification of registration is done through your ParentVUE account.
Daily Schedule
School Supply List and Online Payments
Yearbooks, ASB stickers, course fees, and class workbooks can all be paid for here.
Chromebooks and Other School Materials
Students will be using the same chromebooks that were issued to them last school year. If you’ve returned your chromebook, you will be issued a new one. Students are allowed to use their own devices as well. Students new to ISB will be issued a chromebook sometime during the first week of school.
If you have any school materials (textbooks, library books, class supplies) that you need to return, please bring them back during the first week of school.
Student Schedules
Student schedules will be visible in StudentVUE beginning August 28. Please know that small changes always take place through the first few days of school as we balance classes and ensure proper course placement. If you have any questions about your student’s schedule you can contact their counselor:
Grade 6 and 7: Jack Rossing, jack_rossing@beaverton.k12.or.us
Grade 8-12, Last names A-N: Kathryn Hirsch, kathryn_hirsch@beaverton.k12.or.us
Grade 8-12, Last names O-Z: Tracy Muilenburg, tracy_muilenburg@beaverton.k12.or.us
Paper copies of student schedules will be given to students on their first day of school. For students who are new to ISB, there will be help provided in interpreting and reading their schedules.
Transportation
The Transportation Department continues to work on bus routes for ISB students. Once these are finalized they will be sent via email between August 25 and September 1. Parents can view their student's bus route information through the E-Link Application. For those of you that are dropping off and picking up your students yourself, please follow these guidelines.
Transition Day
Wednesday, September 8 will be an orientation day for Grade 6 and Grade 9 students. All students will attend beginning Thursday, September 9. A separate email will be sent to students and families of sixth and ninth grade students with additional information about September 8. Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday of the first week will be full school days (7:30 - 2:05), though we will be modifying our schedule in school to ensure a full welcome and orientation for all students, both those new to us and those returning. All students, whether new or returning, will have the chance to learn how to open their lockers, how to go through the lunch line, find their classes, and most importantly get to know their teachers and fellow students.

COVID Updates
Students are required to wear masks at all times during the school day, and we are setting up our classrooms and other spaces to maximize social-distancing. Hand sanitizer will be available throughout the school. If your student is experiencing COVID like symptoms, please keep them home. We also strongly encourage you to have your student vaccinated if they are of the age to do so. Masks and vaccinations are the two primary ways that we can keep COVID from spreading further.
