Living in the coastal plains
The Coastal Plains is the largest of the four regions with over 13 million acres. It is the wettest of all four regions but is prone to drought. The Coastal plains are a strip of land about 100 miles wide and are mostly prairie. This region is known for the state flower the Bluebonnet. There are three major industries oil, fishing and ranching. Farmers grow crops such as cotton, corn and grains. The coastal plains makes up one third of the state. The area has a population of over 4.5 million people. Large cities like Houston are home to many different religions and cultures.

The Balcones Fault extends east from a point on the Rio Grande near Del Rio and turns northeast running north of Austin. This Fault line is considered the boundary between lowland and upland Texas. Below the line is the coastal plains and above it is rolling hills.
Big Bend National park
The park is 801,163 acres and is one of the largest parks in the United States located along the Rio Grande at the border of Mexico and the United States 9,000 years old artifacts have been discoverd here. In 2012 the park was named a International Dark Sky park, one of the only ten places on the planet cerlified for Dark Sky Stargazing.
Houston
Houston is a large port city located in the east corner of the state. the largest coastal city,Houston has a population of over 2.1 million people. Founded in 1839 it was named after General Sam Houston. Houston is home of NASA,s Gonson Space Center.
