Fifth Grade Newsletter

February 14, 2016

Dear Parents:

Happy Valentine's Day! We hope you and your family had an enjoyable weekend.

We will be working on some writing mini-lessons this week to help us improve our narratives. Students will do some short story writing to practice the techniques we learn.

Social Studies

We have started our unit on Colonization. Ask your student about "push" and "pull" factors.

This week, students will continue practicing their understanding of the Metric System and the U.S. Customary Unit System. Students will also spend time on finding the volume of prisms and other figures. We will plan on having a unit test next week on Tuesday, February 23rd.

Students have an matter quiz Monday of this week. We also just finished posters that were due Thursday 2-11-16.

School Board Meeting

Our Geography Bee and Spelling Bee finalists are invited to attend Monday night's board meeting, where they will be presented with certificates. The meeting is at 6:00 PM in the elementary school library.

Tutoring Cancellation

After-school tutoring for 5th and 6th grade students will be cancelled Tuesday, February 16 and Tuesday, March 16.

Ski Day

We are planning a 5th and 6th grade trip to Mt. McSauba in early March. The activity will cost $10, so we wanted to let you know in plenty of time. We will send more information in the next newsletter.

Parent-Teacher Conferences

Official conferences will be held the first week in March, but remember that you can contact us any time if you have questions or concerns. We will send home information soon on how to sign up for a conference time with your child's teacher.
