Everyone Welcome for Viewing: Grade 9 Visual Arts and English Interactive Installation based on conflict

Date: Thursday 4 June

Time: 15.00

Location: Canteen

Here is a taste of Grade 9 working in their exciting installation down in canteen in a small room. This is based on their IDU unit in Visual Arts and English called "conflict", which they are expressing in response to the novel "Persepolis" and conflict artists that they researched earlier in the term. Students have created structures to alter the space for their painted surfaces and space for digital animations and videos.

Please come along to see how it finally turns out!

Halcyon Discovery Day

On Thursday 25 June we will hold a Halcyon Discovery Day where students in Grades 6-9 will be able to choose a London exhibition to attend. The idea of this event is to discover more about something that interests you or to discover an interest in something new.

Students are asked to select a first and second choice of exhibitions they would like to visit from the range of options listed below. You can find out more about the exhibitions by visiting the museums' websites.

Places are limited on each trip, so although we will try to ensure each student is able to attend their first choice exhibition, this cannot be guaranteed. Trips going ahead will also be dependent on tickets being available when bookings are made next week.

Please fill out this from: HERE to complete your first and second choices for the trip.

Deadline: Monday 1 June by the end of the school day.

IB Diploma Programme taster day

On Thursday 25 June our grade 10 students will have the opportunity to try of the Halcyon IB diploma programme. That day they will enjoy a test of the key components such as Theory of Knowledge, Creativity, Activity and Service and the Extended Essay. They will also enjoy samples of activities and lessons of the six groups of subjects and to explore University options.

If you are in grade 10 and have a question please see Mrs. Zago.

Notice from the catering corner:

We all love popcorn but we do not love the mess which is created if it is dropped on the floor. On popcorn snack days, please can all students ensure they pick up any pieces of popcorn they drop and make sure they only eat it in the canteen area.

HPC Supports Grade 9 Students Fundraiser

Thursday 4 June

The HPC will be working with the Grade 9 students on a sale of hand-made printed textile book bags that were created in Art this year. The funds raised during the sale will go to a charity called "Kutal, Nepal Shelter Relief.” This charity is working to build homes for earthquake victims. Please support the sale when you are at school on Thursday 4 June for the Interactive Installation based on conflict from 1500-1630.

Mandarin Assessment Support:

Mandarin class students should see Ms Lin during lunch break this week if they need support for homework and the forthcoming assessments. F04.

Which Book will Triumph

Grade 6X and 6Y have spent the last six weeks writing a book each:

  • 6X: "Monsters Need Heroes Too"
  • 6Y: "The Canteen Invasion"

They now need you, Halcyon Students, to vote for which you think is better. It's easy to do:

1) Read each of the books (This takes around 10 minutes each).

2) Vote for your favourite using the form sent to you (before Wednesday).

3) Wait to see if you're the lucky winner of the iTunes Gift Card!

The winning class will be announced on Thursday, 4 June 2015.

You can read the books digitally by clicking on each of these links ("Monsters Need Heroes Too") or ("The Canteen Invasion") OR reading a copy in The Hub or Canteen; These will be out on Monday.

Have a question? Please see Mrs. Jones.
