From The President of The United States of America
Fair Labor Standards Act
This act will instill three notions:
- Employers are required to pay all workers a minimum wage of $.25
- All workers will be compensated for overtime work
- New laws will be enforced regarding child labor
A minimum wage will compensate workers for their hourly work to ensure the future of themselves' and their families. Employers will be forced to pay the minimum wage to all employees they currently have hired and will hire in the future.
Non-exempt employees must be paid at a rate that is time-and-a-half the regularly paid rate for any hours worked over 40 hours in one workweek. The overtime rate is calculated using the individual employee's pay rate, so the rate varies by employee. This will ensure that employees are satisfied with the amount of pay they receive for the amount of work they do.
Child Labor Laws
The purpose of these child labor laws is to ensure that the work is safe and does not jeopardize their health, well-being or educational opportunities. In addition, the law includes sections that restricts the number of hours a child could work and bans children under the age of 18 from working in extremely hazardous or dangerous jobs.
