Magical Monarchs!
Learning about Monarch Butterflies
Magical Monarchs
Meet Frank!
We discovered that the science word for caterpillar poop is frass. We were sure to share that new knowledge with anyone we talked to!
Monarch caterpillars only eat milkweed leaves. As Frank grew, Mrs. Paulhamus would change his leaves for him. It was really cool to see him eat and grow.
Of course, the more Frank ate, the more frass there was!! :)
Life Cycle of the Butterfly
Migration
We learned how scientists tag butterflies before they make their trip to Mexico. Mrs. Walker brought a butterfly with her to show us how to tag the butterfly and we released Lillianna.
We pretended we were butterflies and prepared to go on our own journey of migration. Mrs. Walker shared that it needs to be warm and sunny for the butterflies to fly. They can't fly in the rain and they need to beware of birds.
Mrs. Walker also read us a book about migration and it had a song that went with it. The kids enjoyed singing along and she sent me the MP3. I included it below so you can hear it too!
Releasing Frank
Thank you Mrs. Walker! We learned so much!
