S.T.E.M. Common Plan Survey Results
November 21, 2016
Preface & Respondent Data:
Hello All,
We're excited to bring you the data rundown on our recent Common Plan Survey. We had a significant number of respondents: roughly 55% of teachers and 38% of coaches participated, giving us insight on some definite trends across grade levels.
Trends:
The following table shows what participants called out as "strengths" as well as "grows." We've also included a "next-steps" column, naming actions we're taking to ensure plans and overall units continue to improve.
Notes:
A few important notes around other pieces of feedback we received:
- Timeline: plans will continue to be posted 2 weeks prior to execution; we will not be able to post sooner than this. Please work with your coach/teachers to ensure planning expectations fit accordingly. We do recognize there have been some problems with timeliness for fourth grade, though we're working to get back on track for Unit 4.
- Personalization: thank you to folks who are taking ownership of personalizing hooks, comments, students names, etc. Please remember that plans are a starting point. Our goal is to provide strong and appropriate content, though formatting, spacing, font, and personalized aspects are teachers' responsibility.
- Problem Types: alignment throughout lessons will continue to be a focus, though question types will vary. If more e.g. "We Do" problems are needed, or additional at-bats for certain students, teachers should be creating "parallel problems," using the provided questions as a starting point.
Thanks, all!
