The SoRoCo Weekly Newsletter
October 9, 2016
Dear Team,
This week will bring us to the conclusion of the first quarter! Where did the time go? It’s hard to believe we’ve been in school for seven weeks.
This might be a good time to reflect on some practices. By mid-October, many of us have established our routines for students in our classrooms. How are they working for you? More importantly, how are they working for your students? Remember, it is never too late to tweak or even alter your practice. While we are seven weeks into the school year, in many ways, it still feels like the beginning of school. Some of our kiddos have barely broken in their back-to-school shoes. They are still eager for you to take the reins and lead them through an amazing school year!
I don’t know about you, but COLLAB was a productive and invigorating day for me. At the end of the day, I looked through my notes with excitement as I realized the potential we have as educators in our incredible community. I’m hoping your sessions evoked critical thinking and deep conversations, but more importantly, I’m hoping you were able to develop new ideas and are ready to start implementing them at Soroco tomorrow!
~ The Admin Team
At Soroco, we strive to live out our district’s values every day. We would like to recognize individuals who display our core values, which drive our success.
Accountable: This goes to Dakota Bruner. When we found ourselves short a babysitter at the Elementary School Parent Advisory Council/PTO/School Health Team meeting, Dakota stepped up and watched 15 kids of various ages. She played games with them and kept them busy and safe so parents could attend the meeting. What a trooper! Thank you Dakota for being a kind and helpful young lady who really saved the day!
Motivated: This goes to our Varsity High School Football Team for winning Saturday in overtime on the road against Gilpin County - not an easy thing to do.
Safe: This goes to Rita Rhodes, who is the expert at fostering deep relationships with students and families - not only at the secondary level, but throughout the entire district. Rita makes going to school a positive experience for many students, who might feel differently without her.

A Message From the Athletic Director
At the high school level, I want to give a special shout out to the football team for persevering in overtime Saturday at Gilpin County and bringing us back another win. We are still undefeated in league play with only three games to go!
How 'bout cross country runner Chloe Veilleux! Saturday morning in Aspen, Chloe took FIRST place with the 2nd fastest time in course history, beating the # 1 ranked girl in the state by over a minute! Her coach says, "The gal's a monster. This race was the boost she needed." Good luck to Chloe and the rest of the high school cross country team as they prepare for the post-season.
