Principal's Note
I am excited to report that we have seen high levels of spirit and low incidences of plumbing events at Amherst Middle School this week.
It is clear that students and staff put a lot of effort into filling this Spirit Week with cheer and enthusiasm. From Festive Friday to Pajama Day, Wacky Wednesday, and beyond, it was a week to remember for sure. I have never seen so many lights, sparkles and bright colors, along with smiles and laughs in the classrooms and hallways.
You may have also heard that Mr. Schuttinger and I met with students virtually on Monday to talk about the recent plumbing issues and our plans to help prevent them from continuing in the future. Your student may have seen some tighter restrictions on leaving the classroom, signing out, and returning in a reasonable amount of time. We also asked students to help us by having the courage to report or intervene if they see something. We believe that this structure, along with continued investigation and consequences as specific issues arise, will be helpful in extinguishing negative restroom behaviors. We are grateful for your support at home as you speak to your students about what's been happening and report to us if you hear something on your end. I am confident that our school community will move past this and we can continue to focus our energies on academic success in the weeks and months to come.
I would like to wish you and your family a restful, relaxing, and safe holiday vacation. I look forward to seeing everyone in the new year.
Best,
Kristen
