Where Everyone Can Succeed
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
I hope you have all stayed safe during the recent weather. Despite the wet conditions, all students continued to shine during week 5 and week 6 at Glendore Public School! It's been lovely to see the first of our 'Assistant Principal - Silver Awards' being printed. Silver Awards are achieved once a student receives 5 'Going Strong' awards.
Thank you to our School Ministers, Mrs Tomeski and Mrs Budd for organising our 22/02/2022 'Twosday' fundraiser! It was 'two-rrific' to see so many silly socks!
On Monday 28th of February, schools moved to changed COVID advice and settings. Our school will continue to ensure our layered COVID-smart measures are in place, including vaccinations, maximising natural ventilation in learning spaces, continued good hand hygiene practices and enhanced cleaning. Please refer to our COVID advice newsletter for specific advice - https://www.smore.com/9ga3e
Unfortunately due to the wet weather conditions, we had to postpone our Clean Up Australia Days which were scheduled for week 6. We are hopeful our Clean Up Australia Days can occur during week 7. We've also had to reschedule our planned school Cross Country. Our new date for Cross Country will be 25th of March, 2022.
During week 8, we are looking forward to celebrating Australia's cultural diversity during our Harmony Week celebrations. On Friday 18th of March, all students are invited to wear something orange to support Harmony Week or come in their cultural dress.
Preparation for the 2022 NAPLAN has commenced. Students in Year 3 and Year 5 will complete the NAPLAN tests in Term 2, from the 10th to 20th of May. Specific information will be released closer to the date.
Don't forget to save the date for our Parent/Teacher interviews on Thursday 31st of March from 3pm to 6pm. Bookings will open soon on our Sentral Parent Portal.
Be sure to keep an eye on our Facebook page to see all the great learning and activities taking place around our school!
Yours in Education,
Erin Lewis

- Parents have contacted us with concerns about the morning parking and near misses of cars.
- This week, Parents/Caregivers who regularly use our Pick-up Zone will receive a dashboard sign to use when using the Pick-up Zone.
- Please display this dashboard sign on the passenger side of your car dashboard before approaching the Pick-up zone. This will allow for a quick and safe collection of students.
If you are using the Pick-Up Zone in Garawon Place, please follow the following advice:
1. Only the first six cars closest to the staff driveway will have their child/ren delivered to their car by staff.
2. The first six cars need to drive away together (like a train).
3. Cars must not swerve in/out of the traffic, as this causes safety risks to staff and students.
4. The next six cars will then be directed to move to the Pick-Up Zone.
5. The process repeats and continues.
6. Please ensure you follow all road rules. Police and Council Rangers regularly patrol this zone.
- The same process applies for morning Drop-Off.
- Year 6 High School Forms will be sent home with students on Wednesday, 9th March 2022.
- They should be returned to class teachers no later than Friday, 18th March 2022.
- All students in Year 6 must return a form, even if they are enrolling at a non-government High School.
- Parent/ Teacher Interviews will be taking place on Thursday 31st of March, 3pm to 6pm and will be booked via the Sentral Parent Portal.
- All families who have not connected to the portal as yet, will receive instructions on how to do so via a letter in the mail.
- If you require support with connecting to the portal please contact the school.
- Details on how to book and booking window opening times coming soon.
- During Week 7 and Week 8, students in Year 4 and Year 6 will participate in a Reading and Numeracy Check-in Assessment during class time.
- The Check-in Assessments have been developed by the NSW Department of Education and are used to support schools to assess and monitor student learning.
- The assessments supplement existing school practices to identify how students are performing and to help teachers tailor their teaching more specifically to student needs.
- Students with disability may receive the same level of support during the assessment that they would normally receive in the classroom.
- Please ensure your child brings their own headphones or earbuds to use during the assessments.
- Glendore PS has a Defence School Mentor (DSM). Her role in the school is to support Defence Force students and family members with emotional and social needs.
- Defence recognises that some children may experience disruption to their education each time they move for a posting. They have a range of services and resources that can assist with the transition between schools and education systems, and to provide support for the unique needs of Defence students.
- If you or a family member are in the Defence Force, could you please email the school addressed Attention: Lucy Maher.
Good luck to Georgia, Harper, Caitlin, Kaylee and Charlie who will be competing at the Hunter swimming Carnival on Friday 11th March.
We know you will do a great job.
- Glendore Public School will be celebrating Harmony Week from Monday, 14th March through until Friday, 18th March.
- Harmony Week is an opportunity to appreciate inclusiveness, respect and belonging for all Australians, regardless of cultural or linguistic background, united by a set of core Australian values.
- Students will be working with their stage on activities that support the ideals of Harmony Day.
- Students will be required to bring a 1 metre piece of ribbon to add to our wishing tree. More information on this activity will be sent out closer to the date.
- Lolly guessing will be run by our ministers during lunch. Guesses are 50cents a guess and the winners will be announced at the end of the week.
- On Friday students are invited to wear something orange to support Harmony Week or come in their cultural dress.
- Additional information about Harmony Day can be found at https://www.harmony.gov.au/

- Final payment date is Friday 25th of March, 2022. It is expected to cost around $12 - $14.
- EOI notes for students in Year 2 who wish to participate in the 3-6 carnival have been home in a paper form note. This is only for students who are 8 or turning 8 this year.
- These are to be returned to class teachers by Tuesday 8th March.
