Richland Reflections
Week Ending 10/6/16 at Richland Elementary School
Leader in Me
Our October focus for Leader in Me is Begin With the End in Mind. Help promote this at home by encouraging students to plan ahead and set goals, be prepared, and think about positive and negative consequences before acting. In the cafeteria and all around the school, students can be "caught" demonstrating this habit. Ask your children to tell you about it!
1st Graders Are Growing
Did you know that roots grow if you put the top of a pineapple in water? After watching a video of a pineapple plantation, students in Mrs. Wiater's first grade class planted their own class pineapple. Students added special soil and planted a pineapple, roots and all. Since it can take 2 years for a pineapple to grow, students signed their names on the bucket and will be back in third grade to check it out!
4th Grade Scientists
Paul Golrick, from Penns Trail Environmental, came to visit 4th graders during their land and water unit to discuss the components of soil. He used an auger to show the different layers of soil right in Richland's backyard! Students collected soil samples and analyzed them to determine their components.

Volunteer Clearances
Please see the district website link for information on volunteer clearances.
Clearances are needed for any classroom volunteering including parties.
Once they are updated, they are valid for 5 years.
Car Rider Procedures
Thank you for your cooperation with drop off and pick up procedures in the car rider lane. We ask that all drivers pull all the way to the cone marked stop to allow for as many students as possible to enter or exit cars quickly and safely. Please refrain from parking across the street and walking through car traffic. For safety, please enter the third driveway and take your place in line. With everyone's cooperation, our car rider procedures make drop off and pick up run very smoothly!
