Gayman's Earth Day Reflections
Wednesday, April 22nd is Earth Day. Earth Day is a perfect time to reflect upon the environmentally-friendly events that have occurred throughout this school year. Gayman is full of Earth-Lovers and has initiated many activities that help to keep our earth clean and healthy.
Here are a few of the fabulous Earth-Loving Projects that Gayman students have been involved in …
- Go-Crazy-Green Day Challenge: In celebration of our earth, Student Council is challenging Gayman students to wear crazy amounts of green on Earth Day – for just $1.00. Student Council plans to purchase and plant trees on the playground with the money raised. The Student Council members will award the “Greenest Student” from each grade with the opportunity to help plant the trees!
- Food For Friends: Fourth-Grade Student Council has eliminated waste by collecting unused (and unopened) food in the cafeteria. What’s more, they are helping others by donating this food to the Bucks County Housing Group.
- Reusable Lunch Trays: On March 26th, the Reusable Lunch Trays have returned to Gayman. By the end of this school year, we will have saved more than 6,500 styrofoam trays from polluting our earth.
- Terracycle Collections: The collection of hard-to-recycle waste such as dried up pens and markers, glue sticks and drink pouches continues at Gayman. Instead of sitting in a landfill, writing instruments and glue sticks have turned into new garbage cans and park benches. And, drink pouches have been transformed into backpacks and lunch bags.
- Planting Seeds with Mr. Grace: In honor of Earth Day, Kid’s Care Club and Mr. Grace will explore how fruits and vegetables grow in the earth. Learning about, and understanding, our earth allows us to treat it well!
- Gayman’s Annual Book Swap: Eliminates waste by giving books a second life with a new owner. Books are traded among students and others are donated to Philadelphia Reads.
- Bucks County Audubon Society (BCAS) Plaque: BCAS will honor Gayman for its support of environmental education through field trips to Honey Hollow Environmental Education Center and the participation of the Gayman Kids Care Club with the Haunted Trails Halloween event. Gayman’s support allows the BCAS to follow their mission of educating the people of the greater Bucks County region about our natural world.
Gayman IS making a difference in our world!

Are you looking for a way to support the Art Program at Gayman? Set up will be taking place on Friday, May 1st and again on Monday, May 4th at 3:30 in the afternoon. April Boomerang Award
This year, Gayman will continue to accept nominations for the Boomerang Award, which is our way of honoring students who best demonstrate their own developmental assets. What are Developmental Assets? Students possessing a combination of “40 Assets” are typically most successful in school and in life. These assets have the power to influence choices young people make and help them become caring, responsible adults. For a complete listing of the 40 Developmental Assets and the Nomination form please click on the link below:
