A Note from our administration
Dear MJH families,
Access to and use of social media is common these days and has become second nature to many of us. This past week, your child took part in classroom lessons about Digital Citizenship. These lessons were created for this specific age to help our students learn the habits and skills they need to use technology safely and responsibly in school, at home, and beyond. During these lessons, our students were able to reflect on their tech use and make thoughtful reflections and choices about how and when they use it, how to stand up to cyber-bullying, use social media carefully, and look critically at the news.
Just this past week, MISD implemented a new safety and communication resource on campuses. The STOPit app is an app that provides students with a way to anonymously report incidents or concerns to the school administration and counselors by phone or computer. We know that for many students, they feel more comfortable reporting important matters through this type of platform.
As for our families, if you as parents have any concerns about matters taking place at school, we ask that you please address them through the appropriate channels, i.e. a discussion with the class teacher, counselors, or principals. We understand that it is inevitable given the nature of schools and what we do, that there will be occasions when parents are concerned, worried, or in some cases, angry about things that have happened. When these things occur, the school wants to know about it and be able to look into the situation in order to resolve the matter as quickly and appropriately as possible. The use of social media channels to express and share matters causing discontent, or the posting of offensive comments about our school, the staff, or the students is not acceptable or effective. We need to work as a family, because we both want what is best for our students and we should be working together not against one another, to resolve any concerns through the appropriate channels.
We love our Bears and wish you and your family a happy and safe Thanksgiving.
A Note from our Counselors
Our MJH Counseling Team enjoyed visiting with all students during the past few weeks to discuss the important study skills and character traits needed to be a successful student and caring friend in junior high. Mrs. Gagliano (6th), Ms. Dunbar (7th), and Mrs. Stewart (8th) are here to inspire, support, and empower our students as they explore their interests, work to their potential, and grow as learners here at MJH.
PSAT 8/9 will be taking place on campus November 12th. Registered 8th graders will receive a reminder letter the first week of November. If your student is taking the PSAT 8/9, please ensure they are on time to school on November 12th.
Also, if you are in need of holiday assistance this year, either for Thanksgiving or Christmas, please let Mrs. Stewart know of your request by November 5th if you need a meal for Thanksgiving, and by November 12th if you need assistance for Christmas. If you are willing to "Adopt" a family or student this year for the holidays, please let Mrs. Stewart know as soon as possible.

Attendance
Regular school attendance is one of the most important indicators of school success. Students who attend school regularly not only improve their chances of being academically successful, but it builds strong relationships with their peers and teachers.
We know there are a wide variety of reasons that a student must be absent. Communication is Key! Always send in a note (either parent or doctor) with your student when they return to school. Absence notes will be accepted within 3 days of the six week grading period. If your student will be absent multiple days, please communicate with your child's teachers via email.
Our teachers provide challenging, hands-on learning experiences that engage our students' minds and hearts! We miss your student when they are not here, and your student misses outstanding learning opportunities and valuable teacher/peer interactions when they are not present in class.
Please visit our attendance page to report an absence: https://montgomeryjh.misd.org/for_parents/attendance. You may also email the attendance office with your parent/doctor note at mjhattendance@misd.org

STOPit APP FOR STUDENTS
Lunch Visitors
Parents,
A friendly reminder, you can not bring or share lunches with other students due to safety, medical concerns, allergies, etc.
We have a parent lunch table now for parents to eat lunch with their student.
If students forget their lunch, we have a parent drop off table in the front foyer for you to drop off lunches. Please let your child know you have brought their lunch to school.
New Campus Meal Viewer and Cafeteria Charges
The Child Nutrition Department has moved to a new website to display menus for students and parents. The website it MealViewer, here is the link - https://schools.mealviewer.com/district/Montgomery%20ISD,%20TX
Parents can set accounts for students to alert them when their favorite meals are being served in the cafeteria, what foods contain their students’ allergens, and so much more!!
MISD has an easy online way for you to keep your child’s account. Go to the MISD webpage and click on the left tab “Child Nutrition Info”. Then click “MySchoolBucks.com.”
Parents will be encouraged to make prepayments on students’ accounts using my school bucks, cash or checks to avoid cash transactions during meal service.
MJH Parent/Student Handbook
The Parent-Student Handbook will be available on the MJH website. We encourage you to become familiar with the information contained in the handbook. Forms such as Release of Picture/Directory Information, Medication for the Nurse, Change of Address/Phone Number, and Technology Agreement are found at the back of the Handbook.
Transportation
We ask that you make every effort to request transportation changes prior to 1:30 p.m. in order for us to be certain that your student leaves in the correct manner. You may make changes by:
1. Sending a note with your child;
2. Faxing with a photo of your I.D. to 936-276-3301. Please include your student’s first & last name on any change. Emails or texts to teachers, phone calls to the front desk, and student-relayed messages are not requests that we honor for safety reasons.
· MJH CAR RIDER LINE/BUS POLICY
Due to the continued growth of MISD, we will no longer allow extra riders to ride the bus routes. Only registered riders will be allowed on the bus routes. We highly encourage students to car-pool to school due to the high volume of traffic and limited parking during the morning hours.
