Welcome to Fulton Virtual ELA!
"Any time, any place, personalized pace"
Welcome to ELA...the Fulton Virtual Way!
Greetings in the name of academic excellence, and welcome to Fulton Virtual ELA!
I'm Ms. Silveri, your English Instructor for Fall Semester 2015. I'm delighted to meet you and to work with you towards the mutual goal of your academic success. For Fulton Virtual School, there are two sites that we use that are linked together. To log in, you go to https://fulton.geniussis.com. After you log in with Genius, you will see your class name in the box called "Academic Snapshot." To get to your class and all of the lessons that go with it, you must click on the class name. That will automatically send you over to Edgenuity and automatically log you in.
Once in your classes on Edgenuity or Blackboard (Multicultural Lit only), you will see a progress bar in the top of the right-hand window that will show where you stand. If it is in Green, you are ahead. If it is in Red, you are falling behind. If it is Blue, you are right on track. If you want to see what the system expects you to complete each day as it calculates whether you are on pace or not, go to "Organizer" on the right side (in orange), then "Reports," then "Assignment Calendar."
- All of your assignments, tests, quizzes, etc. are all built into the lessons in the courses in Edgenuity. They are not posted elsewhere or sent out by email. They are built into Edgenuity.
- To help get you started, please take a moment to watch this brief orientation video on Edgenuity.
Parents: I will be adding you to the Parent Portal inside Edgenuity. You will should receive an email shortly, but you may need to OPT-IN in order to receive the daily updates showing you everything you need to know about your student's progress inside Edgenuity. The Parent Portal email gives you a daily snapshot of your student's time spent online (including idle time), progress, and current assessment. You may also log in to the Parent Portal directly. Please email me directly at silveri@fultonschools.org if you would you like your access code.
I am here to assist you whenever you may need me. As such, my goal is to meet with you at least three times each month through a combination of virtual and in-person conferences. Most conferences will take place in a virtual environment with the assistance of Skype, Google Hangout, or FaceTime, but that I will begin scheduling face-to-face visits with you at your home school as early as next week.
My traditional office hours are M-F 8:00am--4:00pm, but I'm always just a phone call, text, or email away. I'll be sending your syllabus via email by Tuesday evening, but you can always refer your course calendar in Edgenuity while you wait. I can't wait to hear from you, and wish you the best for a peaceful and prosperous semester.
Have a fantastic semester!
Sincerely,
Ms. S

About Your Instructor
Shekema Silveri, Georgia’s 2011 Milken National Educator, is the Lead Virtual ELA Instructor for Fulton Virtual School. As the former Performance Management Administrator and Professional Learning Administrator for the Georgia Charter Schools Association, Silveri brings an extensive wealth of knowledge and experience in the charter sector. Recently elected to a two-year term as the Secondary Section Representative-At-Large by the 30,000 constituent members of National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE), she also brings a host of national leadership experience to the Fulton Virtual School leadership team.
During her ten-year tenure inside public school classrooms, Silveri has required students to produce evidence of learning, justify their perspectives, evaluate their reasoning, and set their future goals. As part of her well-rounded approach to instruction, Silveri integrated multimedia into her lessons, using websites and blogs as well as shooting and editing video, all of which lead to her being featured on CNN’s Perry’s Principles, NBC’s Education Nation Teacher Town Hall Atlanta, and America Achieves (funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and Bloomberg Philanthropies). Through these methods, Silveri’s students not only learned the information but also came to understand the pedagogy behind it, which is why her AP Literature classes were consistently filled to capacity and include students who are not normally on an honors or AP track.
In addition to being a coveted conference and keynote speaker, Silveri is a published author with pieces appearing in The New York Times: Room for Debate Series, Teach+Plus’ blog on the Huffington Post, ASCD, Success at the Core Blog, and more. Silveri holds a Bachelors of Arts degree in English (Advanced Composition & Rhetoric Concentration) and a Masters of Secondary English Education from Georgia State University. She is currently pursuing a Masters of Divinity from Luther Rice Seminary.
