Science Fair Success!
Pictured L-R Shaunak Pandey, Samuel Li, Tanuj Tekkale. Not Pictured Sameeksha Jayaprakash she had to leave immediately to compete in DI . All four represented themselves and Vandegrift extremely well.
And I can proudly say that this year we now have TWO projects going to the International Science and Engineering Festival (ISEF) mid May. Vandegrift has competed in Science Fair for I believe around 10 years. We have had one student qualify to compete in the International Fair. It is EXTREMELY competitive. Over 20,000 projects in TX and only 12 advanced from State as well as 6 from the Austin Regional Fair. The fact that Vandegrift has two representatives is simply amazing. The two students are:
Caitlin Garrett- Caitlin qualified for ISEF at the Austin Regional Science Fair. She is working on a mathematical model to more accurately understand the staging of Metastatic Cancer. This was Caitlin's first time competing in Science Fair as a high school student, so reaching Internationals on her first try is beyond impressive.
Shaunak Pandey. Shaunak worked diligently for over a year to better understand climate change and ways we limit the negative effects of carbon emissions. His project delved into trapping Carbon Dioxide into underground rock reservoirs. As he has been working on his project he has gained tremendous knowledge in Geology, Fluid Dynamics, Mathematical Modeling as well as using modern technologies such as the Super Computer at UT Austin. Shaunak has competed in Science Fair for 5 years, and has finally reached his goal of qualifying!

Relay for Life is Coming!
Vandegrift High School’s 13th Annual Relay for Life is back. Relay For Life is a student-run event. Relay For Life is a fundraiser event for the American Cancer Society. It not only raises money but honors, celebrates, and remembers those affected by cancer. This is the second year Relay For Life is back in-person since 2019. The last time we were able to have this fundraiser almost 1000 students and community members came together to support those affected by cancer. Relay For Life is Friday, April 14th, at 6 PM at Monroe Stadium. Sign up to participate and/or donate from the link below!

Join the VHS PTSA Today!
Parents ask how they can be involved & support the school --- Easiest step is to join the PTSA as a family (moms, dads, guardians, students). Please take a moment to join – the list of activities and support they provide year round to the staff, students and community is too numerous to mention. Return on your investment in dues and participation in the “write the check” fund-raiser is high. Form attached for check/cash enrollment, credit cards accepted at the PTSA store : vandegrift-mypta.org

2023 Bleeding Control Training Student Opportunity
House Bill 496 mandates that school districts ensure that there is a bleeding control kit (trauma kit) on each campus and that certain staff members are trained on how to control bleeding. These kits are located in each automated external defibrillator (AED) on every LISD campus.
HB 496 also mandates that Texas school districts offer annual bleeding control training to students in Grades 7–12. With that in mind, the district will hold voluntary training opportunities for a maximum of 100 students for each LISD feeder pattern (Grades 7–12).
To ensure proper instructor/student ratios, pre-registration is required. We encourage you to select the training located at the high school your student is zoned to attend.
All training sessions will be offered on Wednesdays as listed from 5-7 p.m.
- March 8 – Rouse HS Lecture Hall
- March 22 – Leander HS Lecture Hall C
- March 29 – Cedar Park HS Lecture Hall
- April 5 – Vista Ridge HS Library
- April 12 – Glenn HS Union
- April 19 – Vandegrift HS Lecture Hall (Big)
Course objectives include:
- Scene safety and awareness
- Recognition of life-threatening bleeding
- Appropriate interventions for bleeding control
- Application of bleeding control techniques
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact your campus nurse.
