Core Values Assembly
Every month, North Street students and staff focus on a different core value, derived from a list that was developed by our staff. Respect is the focus of the month of December. The students in Mrs. McHenry's class did a fantastic job presenting this value to our school. They sang a song, showed a video that demonstrated what it can feel like when someone does not show respect, and acted out a skit to show how to be respectful to others. They also created books for each class! There is a link to the slideshow they presented to the school on our website. Click under the top "News" tab and then to "Core Values Assemblies."
Winter Weather & Recess
At North Street, we take every opportunity to bring students outside at recess. Unless it is raining or extremely cold, we take kids out....even if there is snow on the ground. If students have snow pants, snow boots, a coat, and gloves, they are allowed to play in the snow. Otherwise, they will stay on the blacktop.
Keep in mind that we also go out as soon as kids get off the bus in the morning. Encourage your student to come to school fully geared up for snow - they are allowed to play on the playground during that time as well. Due to supervision issues, students are not allowed to change into their snow gear when they first arrive at school.
North Street PAC
We are so blessed to work with such a creative and involved PAC! Here are a few highlights of past and upcoming events:
- The BookFair was a success! Thank you to all of the volunteers who came to help, and to Bryan Tuttle for organizing it all. Great job everyone!
- The Jolly Jamboree is coming! On Friday, December 13th please join Dewing families at the Ryan School form 6:30 - 8:00 pm (quiet time from 6:00 - 6:30). There will be games, music, face painting, pizza for sale, and more! Each child that brings a new unwrapped toy to our Cole's Hope collection will be entered into a raffle for a prize. They still need volunteers to help run the different stations. Click on this link:
- The Holiday Help program is also getting started. Please click on this link to donate a gift to a North Street family in need this holiday season.
School Council
At our last meeting, we reviewed the experiences teachers and students had during our ALICE drill. The drill went smoothly, and everyone was organized and followed procedures properly. However, we know that real-life situations rarely run as smoothly or as predictably as drills, and our group wrestled with some procedural questions. A member of the Tewksbury Police Department will be joining us at our next meeting to provide guidance and clarity. We are also working on creating a template regarding procedures for substitutes. Although we have begun our work together, we are always ready to welcome new members to our group. If you are interested in joining School Council, please email me at the address below.
