KSD140 Connection
A Message from Superintendent Dr. Shawn Olson ~ 01/04/2022
Dear KSD 140 families,
I hope you have enjoyed winter break and have had the opportunity to rest and recharge. As we approach our return to school on Thursday, January 6, the District remains committed to the layered mitigation strategies that have proven effective and allowed us to provide 100% fully in-person instruction during the first half of the school year. We appreciate your partnership and wanted to provide a few reminders and updates prior to students returning to school in person on Thursday, January 6.
Isolation and Quarantine
Last week, the CDC announced new isolation/quarantine guidelines for the general public; however, the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) has instructed school districts to continue following the COVID-19 protocols that were in place before winter break. Illinois school districts must wait for IDPH to adopt the CDC recommendations before implementing them. We will notify parents if/when IDPH updates school-specific protocols.
COVID-19 Symptoms
We encourage you to continue closely monitoring your child(ren) for COVID-19 symptoms and to keep them home if they are experiencing symptoms or if they have been exposed to someone who has tested positive for COVID-19. We thank you and ask again for your continued patience, understanding, and commitment to keeping D140 schools open. Please review our website's COVID-19 Reporting and Updates section for additional information, including D140’s COVID-19 Dashboard.
Staffing Shortages
Like many school districts, District 140 continues to experience staffing and substitute shortages. We anticipate these shortages will continue and perhaps worsen in the new year due to the increased positivity rate and the need to quarantine within our community. Our goal is to continue in-person instruction while maintaining a safe and healthy teaching and learning environment. If you or anyone you know is willing to be a substitute teacher, paraeducator, and/or bus driver, please consider applying and/or sharing this link to the employment section of our website.
Again, I hope that you enjoyed winter break and are ready for the second half of the 2021-22 school year. We appreciate your partnership!
Respectfully,
Dr. Shawn Olson
Superintendent
