What's Blooming? 3/12/23
A Message from PRINCIPAL FOX...
Please review the district's Code of Conduct with your children, especially the discipline matrix for each grade band. The district has the matrix divided into four bands, only the K-2, 3-5, and 6-8 pertain to our campus. This should be a quarterly review with your children, especially in the middle years.
Dress Code Violations
MYP families,
As we get ready to wrap up the third quarter and head into Spring Break (3/20-3/24), please review the Dress Code reminders below in this newsletter, (also in the Parent/Guardian/Student Handbook.) Having the SCHOOL-ISSUED IDs on and having shirts TUCKED in are tied to our safety measures throughout the day, not just upon arrival.
We will be sharing these reminders with all MYP students and begin the strict oversight of the safety measures upon our return and start to the fourth quarter 3/27/2023. We always with the student body the WHY behind the safety measures, and for the most part, they are respectful and want to be a part of the safety measures.
The District Matrix on Dress code violation, ZE, (to dress/accessorize in a manner that violates the codes of student conduct or approved school’s dress code or uniform policy, includes not wearing school ID and shirt untucked) states the following:
1st consequence – parent contact and verbal warning (Quarters 1-3: have served as this step)
2nd consequence – parent contact and loss of Extra Curricular activities (Quarters 1-3: students earned a detention for shirts untucked three times and for not having ID for three days)
3rd consequence – parent contact and in-school suspension 1 to 3 days. (Quarter 4: 3/27/23-6/8/23) For Year 3 families, please remind your child(ren) of their End of Year Trip contract as this consequence will make them ineligible for the Gradventure Trip.
We thank you for your partnership in making sure we are all following the safety measures all day, every day.

REMINDER: Dress Code Policy
Please review our Dress Code Policy, which you can find in our Parent/Guardian/Student Handbook as well as your registration family-school contract.
Students in grades 2-8 MUST HAVE A BELT if they are wearing the shorts or pants.
MYP students MUST have their school-issued ID at ALL times while on campus. If they have lost it or their picture/name is no longer visible, they will need a new one. You may send $8 check/money order to Ms. Shears or Ms. Gibson; you may also make a payment on our website.

International Baccalaureate Corner: March's Learner Profile Attribute - Thinker
The IB Learner profile aims to develop students who are thinkers. Students who are thinkers exercise initiative in applying thinking skills critically and creatively to recognize and approach complex problems, and make reasoned ethical decisions.
IB students contribute to discussions in a meaningful way. They do not shy away from challenging questions and, once they know the answer, follow up by asking “why?”
How can parents help to develop students who are thinkers at home?
Encourage your child to engage in pretend play, children are naturally curious and imaginative.
Pause and wait...give your child time to think for him/herself, and be patient.
Don't intervene immediately, it's okay to let your child explore on their own.
Ask open-ended questions.
Help children develop hypotheses.
Encourage critical thinking in new and different ways.
Encourage your child to retell stories, and put on plays with story props.
Leave time for unstructured play.
Encourage your child to play and explore outside.
Encourage Creative Thinking.
Let your child experience failure, and then let him/her figure out how to turn their failure into a positive learning experience.
Provide opportunities to visit Children's Museums and Libraries.
Story Time: “My Lucky Day” by Keiko Kasza
“My Lucky Day” demonstrates how being a Thinker has many benefits!
When a delicious-looking piglet knocks on Mr. Fox's door "accidentally," the fox can hardly believe his good luck. It's not every day that dinner just shows up on your doorstep. It must be his lucky day! Or is it? Before Mr. Fox can say grace, the piglet has manipulated him into giving him a fabulously tasty meal, the full spa treatment (with bath and massage), and...freedom.
In a funny trickster tale of her own, Kasza keeps readers guessing until the surprise ending when they'll realize it was piglet's lucky day all along.
Story Time: Discussion Questions for “My Lucky Day”
1) Before you even read this story, whose lucky day will it be....Mr. Fox? Or Mr. Pig? Why do you think this is so?
2) Why do you think the pig showed up at Mr. Fox's door?
3) What did Mr. Fox make of the situation with Mr. Pig at his door?
4) Which story character is more clever? And why?
5) Which story character did you feel more empathy for? And why?
6) Explain how you feel Mr. Pig viewed Mr. Fox?
7) Explain if the ending of the story took you by surprise? The pig has visited quite a few "wrong" houses.....whose house could you write a story about a pig visiting?
