Planning for 2016-2017
7th Grade Open House
On August 18th from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m., we welcome our 7th graders and their parents to our Open House. Please arrive at the main entrance (by the U.S. Flag). Schedules and locker assignments will be shared and tours, courtesy of our Student Council and NJHS, will be available. Also, if you pre-ordered your school supplies, those will also be available in the cafeteria.
Any schedules not picked up will be sent home by U.S. Mail at the end of the day on August 18th. The Parent and Student Portals which provide schedule information will open on August 22nd.
Any school supplies not picked up will be available in the Main Office starting Monday, August 22 through August 25, and August 29 & 30 from 7 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. If you are not able to pick up your pre-ordered supplies before the start of school, they will be in your homeroom on the first day of school.
8th & 9th Grade Schedule Pickup Day
8th & 9th graders are encouraged to pick up their schedules on August 18th between the hours of 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. in the Cafeteria. Students should enter the cafeteria using the exterior patio doors (see photo) that lead to the Cafeteria. Returning 8th & 9th graders will not have access to the rest of the building on this day as it is the 7th graders' day to discover their lockers and classrooms. Thank you for your understanding.
Again, any schedules not picked up will be sent home by U.S.
A Note on Staying Connected
Dear Parents, Guardians, and Students,
Since our mission statement is titled "Tamanend Together" and the long-standing name of our newsletter is Tamanend Connections, it is important that we share with you the many ways in which you can stay in the loop on all things Tamanend.
First, if someone you know who has a student enrolled at Tamanend for the 2016-2017 school year did NOT receive this newsletter via email, that means that they do not have a current and accurate email address in the Portal. It is important to always make sure Portal demographics are up to date and accurate.
If you (or someone you know) does not know how to get into the Portal, please click here and follow the directions under "Portal Help." The Portal is an important tool for parents and guardians. Throughout the year you can use the Portal to view current grades, attendance, immunizations, state assessment scores, and more. This is also where you can update your email address and phone number as well as emergency contact information for your student.
Your student also has their own access to the Portal. Students should click here for an informational screencast to learn how to access the Portal. The screen-cast can help both parents and students access the Portal by smart phone.
As Principal, one of the things I hear myself say quite often is "there is always something to look forward to at Tamanend." In addition to using our newsletter to help you plan and stay connected, we hope you will follow us on Twitter where we like to share the incredible things our students and teachers are doing each day. Our "Tiger Tweets" are embedded on our main web page so you can follow them even if you do not have a Twitter account.
Finally, staying connected by newsletter, Twitter, and email is great, but nothing beats actually being here! Please follow our calendar and upcoming events and join us as we celebrate learning, talent, service and so much more. We encourage you to volunteer (code word tms), attend, and participate in Tamanend events such as Parent Council, Back to School Night, concerts, athletic events, our magazine drive, Kelly Anne Dolan Day, Relay for Life, our musical, dances and our Freshman Day and Dance. We hope to see you. And thank you in advance for sharing with us your amazing children!
Sincerely,
Cheryl R. Leatherbarrow

A Note about Getting Involved
Dear Parents, Guardians, and Students,
As you start thinking about your return to school, be reminded of all the different ways that you can get involved at Tamanend. Opportunities include music groups, athletics, student council, along with many different academic and service clubs. If you are planning on participating in a fall sport, you must register on Family ID and complete CIPPE form section 5 & 6 dated after June 1, 2016 and signed and stamped by a doctor.
Parents, you too can get involved at Tamanend. The following sign up genius will show volunteer opportunities to support school activities and functions. Please be sure to check it periodically as we update it as new opportunities arise. Click here for the 2016-2017 parent volunteer sign up genius. The access code is tms. Volunteering offers you the chance to be part of your child's middle school experience while helping us provide many wonderful opportunities that will enrich your child's years at Tamanend.
Sincerely,
Mr. Jonathan T. Boyle
Assistant Principal

Gym Uniforms and Locks
All students must wear a CB (or old TMS) gym uniform for their Physical Education classes. Uniforms and locks will be able to be purchased online through our My Payments Plus program starting in mid August. The cost of uniform items and locks for the 2016-2017 school year are as follows:
- T-shirt = $2.30
- Shorts = $4.00
- Lock = $5.40
You will receive an email with directions on how to purchase any of these items. If for some reason you are not able to purchase them online, you will have to write a check out to Central Bucks School District for $11.70. Please include your student's name on the memo line. These will be collected in gym class on the first day your student has gym. Please note, if your student does not have gym until second semester, they can still purchase the items needed online and they will receive their uniform and lock the first day of their gym class in the second semester.

If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Corinne Sikora at 267.893.2021.
Volunteer Required Paperwork
Pennsylvania law requires all persons having direct contact with school children must obtain background checks and clearances by July 1, 2016. If you are planning on being in a Central Bucks school during the 2016-2017 school year for any reason, you will need to go to Volunteer Required Paperwork, complete what is needed to obtain your Photo Volunteer ID Card. You will need that and a piece of photo ID to enter a CB school.
Once you have the paperwork started, please click here to sign up for various volunteer opportunities available this year (use TMS as the password).

SUMMER READING
All middle school students in our district are expected to read throughout the entire year. The state standard recommends twenty-five books per year! Over the summer, all students entering grades seven, eight, and nine must read at least two books. When students begin the new school year, they will be required to complete an activity related to one of the two required books. Students should make sure they have completed the reading of the two books before returning to school. For the summer reading for grades 7, 8 & 9, click here.
Parking Lot Safety
It is highly recommended that parents/guardians of students who walk or take the bus have their students walk or take the bus. On days, when students need extra help getting to school, please consider driving them to their assigned bus stop and wait together in the car until the bus arrives. A student will never be marked tardy if they arrive by bus.
If parents decide to drive students to school, please plan enough travel time to allow for safety and congestion on Stuckert Road and in our school parking lot. The speed limit in our lot is 15 mph.
The following is a mapping of how the student drop-off works in our parking lot. Drop off should only happen where the paw prints indicate on the map. For your safety and the safety of our students, please follow these directions and do not drop your student off on Stuckert Road, the Visitor's Parking area, or in the middle of the Main Parking Area. Thank you for your support and careful driving.

TMS Parent Council
Parent Council is an open meeting where all parents are welcome to attend to learn more about Tamanend Middle School. Parent Council typically meets on the third Thursday of each month at 9 a.m. There is no obligation to attend all Parent Councils and there are no elected positions. Parent Council is a forum for parents and school leaders to learn from and with each other, together.
At this month's Parent Council, we will give an overview of Tamanend and talk about topics of parent interest for Parent Council meetings throughout the year.
