Dear Families,
Thank you for a wonderful school year!!! It has been great to get to know your children and to get to know many of you! I look forward to working this summer in preparation for the 2017-2018 school year. I would like to welcome two new certified staff members that will be part of the Meadowlark family for next year. AMERICA ANSWERS NATIONAL CONTEST
America Answers National Contest
Several Meadowlark Elementary fifth grade students competed in the America Answers National 2017 Contest on Wednesday, April 19th. The quiz is a self-scoring, computer contest of 100 multiple-choice questions to be answered by the group. Areas covered included math, geography, government, sports, spelling, science, literature, English, history, general information and just plain fun trivia. Several students selected the team’s answers on the computer, while the others read through the questions and answers. Each question offers two chances to answer correctly. Points were awarded based on how fast the question was answered by the group, as well as, how accurate. No adult assistance was given! The eight students scored a total of 1039 points, They answered 85% of the questions correctly, 72% of which were answered correctly on the first attempt. The results from this competition are still pending, but we do know that the Meadowlark team tied for 1st place with Robert Martin Elementary, who also received a 1039 point total. The 2017 Thinking Cap Quiz Bowl Contest members included: Ellie B., Kendall D., Addison M., Trevor S., Hayden S., Landen C., Jaxon C., and Ethan F.
Mrs. Stacey King, the Extended Learning Program Teacher, sponsored this activity.
Congratulations to the team for all their hard work!!!
First Grade BreakoutEDU
Meteorologist Jay Prater Visits 1st Grade
Jay Prater, CBM visited our first graders on April 28 and taught us about being a meteorologist! We loved hearing his passion for math, physics, weather, performing and flying! We learned how a tornado forms and the types of tools he uses for his job. He also shared ways to stay safe during storms and lightening!
Thank you Mr. Prater
Senior Walk Through
Former Meadowlark students who are graduating this year from Andover Central High School came over to Meadowlark on Wednesday, April 26th to see where it all began for them. Meadowlark students and staff gave them a nice warm welcome as they lined the halls to cheer and clap the seniors on as they walked by. It was good to see these young adults and how much they have changed since they were students here at Meadowlark!
GO FISH - 3rd & 4th Grade Music Program
The 3rd and 4th Graders went underwater on a deep sea adventure on Thursday, April 27th. These sea creatures reminded us to make friends with others and not judge them by their outsides. They sang good old favorites such as "Surfin' USA" and "Part of your World." The costumes were amazing thanks to our wonderful Meadowlark parents. (Amber Kear and Ally Rogers have done a great job with all of the Music Shows this year, thank you for your leadership.) Michelle Heinggie and Jenny McCaig have taken some wonderful pictures too.
If you would like to be part of the music comittee for next year please let me know.
Go Fish!
