Message from the Assistant Principal
Hi Panda Family-
It is hard to believe that September is here and we are well into the 22-23 school year. Your students are acclimating well to the campus and we cannot wait to see all the great things that they accomplish this year.
Our campus goal is centered around ensuring that each student shows one year or more progress in math and reading as measured by the district literacy and math assessments. In order to achieve this goal, your student will be pushed academically in order to develop the grit to persevere through challenging material. The development of grit is important as students need to be able to work through challenging material without giving up. Angela Duckworh, professor and psychologist who studies grit and self-control says that success comes from believing in yourself and continually working towards the realization of a worthwhile goal. This is where individualized counseling and building grit go hand-in-hand. Our pandas are capable of doing hard things and grit is about believing that “life is a marathon not a sprint”. While our goal is one year plus growth, our work this year is not just about 2022-2023, rather it is about creating lifelong learners, who are equipped to reach their long term goals.

Counselor Corner:
Positive affirmations will lead to positive thinking. Get our Panda’s day started on a positive note by having them say a positive affirmation every day.
Try one of these affirmations this week…
I think through all of my options carefully
I am mindful of how my decisions will affect my surroundings
Try this activity to practice decision-making at home this week - Include your children in your own decisions, seek out their thoughts and opinions, and engage them in everyday decisions. This shows them that their views are valued and their thoughts are respected. Consider their input and then discuss the pros and cons of each option, model making an informed decision, and help them build their critical thinking abilities.
Please join us for the First Annual Suicide Awareness Walk, hosted by Humble ISD Counseling & Behavioral Services, on Wednesday, September 21, 2022, at Kingwood Park High School, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. This free event is open to our entire Humble ISD Community. No registration is required.

News From Nurse Lindsey
The Nurses Clinic Needs YOUR Help
The clinic could really use your help in stocking our shelves. We are running low on girls and boys bottoms for clothing changes. As mentioned in the past, clothes are kept so that our students can change without having to interrupt a parent's day. Sometimes they change because of restroom accidents, but a lot of times it is for food/drink spills, mud puddles, or being out of dress code. Below is a list of what would be most useful to have in our clinic. Good condition, used clothes are always welcome.
-Female leggings (all sizes)
-Female athletic shorts/pants (all sizes)
-Male athletic shorts/pants (all sizes)
-Male and female underwear (all sizes) THESE MUST BE NEW IN PACKAGE
Thank you in advance!!!

This is a fundraiser for Whispering Pines Elementary PAC (Parent Advisory Committee)
Humble ISD Community Leadership Academy.
Participants will get a behind the scenes look at district processes and operations by touring campuses and district facilities on five half day sessions ISD. Sessions will focus on areas of operations from the cafeteria to the classroom, from fine arts to finances. Additionally, participants will learn about school board roles and responsibilities, preparing students for success after high school graduation, state assessments and curriculum, technology in the classroom and student safety.
This academy is free and open to all residents in the Lake Houston area, but there is limited capacity of only 35 available spots each year. Anyone interested in participating must apply by Sunday, September 11th. To read more information and submit your application, go to humbleisd.net/communityacademy.

2022-2023 COVID Protocols
Please complete the COVID-19 Student Self-Reporting Form if your child has received a confirmed positive test for COVID-19. The district is required to share positive case information with the Health Department.
TEA requires that students with COVID remain away from school until re-entry criteria has been met. TEA states the following conditions for re-entry:
- If the child tested positive for COVID-19 but did not experience symptoms: the child “must stay home until at least 5 days after the day they were tested.”
If the child tested positive for COVID and experienced symptoms: “at least 5 days have passed since symptom onset, and fever free, and other symptoms have improved.”
Parents should also follow the normal procedures for reporting a student's absence to the campus.
