This Thursday, September 7th, we will have our first PTA meeting of the school year. The meeting will be held via Zoom. Please join us to hear from the PTA leadership and the principal.
Back to School Night
Many thanks to our parents and guardians who attended Back to School Night. Please complete the survey linked below to provide feedback on your experience.
Head Lice
This week there has been a number of head lice cases at TPES. Should your child contract lice he, she or they must be treated and nit free before returning to school. Please let us know so that we can keep track of the number of cases and notify parents as the need arises.
Testing Coming!!!
Each student will have testing for reading and math during the month of September. The window for reading and math testing (DIBELS & MAP) will begin September 5th and will last until the end of September. For reading testing, each student is tested individually and will likely experience about 30 minutes of testing over the course of several days. This is done one on one with the teacher. For math students will have one day of testing lasting about 35 minutes at the most. The math test is computerized and Please make an effort to have your child in school during that time so that they can be assessed to best determine their strengths and needs for this school year.
DISMISSAL
All students being dismissed as walkers will be dismissed on the back playground or side exit at designated locations. Those persons designated to meet first grade students during dismissal should meet their student on the side of the building next to the loading dock. Please do not wait by the doors as this creates congestion in those areas. If you will be picking up students by car you must go through the Kiss and Ride circle. Students in the kiss and ride area cannot be picked up on foot. When picking up your child on foot, you cannot park in the kiss and ride loop. If you arrive to the kiss and ride on foot, your child will be sent into the main office where you will meet them to sign them out. Parents, please make sure you communicate your child’s dismissal plan so that all students can be sent to the correct dismissal location at the end of the day. Students riding buses will be escorted outside to the buses by staff.
It is critical for parents to arrive at pick up on time to avoid confusion for children. School dismisses at 3:50 p.m. This is an exact time not an estimated one. Should you arrive later than 3:50 p.m. your child will be brought to the main office.
Only buses will be permitted in the bus lane on the side of the school during dismissal.
All changes in dismissal must be submitted, in writing, to the main office and the teacher no later than 12:00 p.m. (noon) of that school day. Only emergency changes will be accepted after 12:00 p.m. each day. This provides the appropriate amount of time to notify teachers and other staff members of the change. When sending an email to change a dismissal routine for your child, please email both Mrs. Paz and your child’s teacher at Johanna_A_Paz@mcpsmd.org.
