This Week in School
Another great week comes to an end. We read Plaidypus Lost and worked on a writing journal to go along with the story. Each day we completed one page of the journal using Seesaw. We also worked on our first set of "amazing words" (vocabulary) that go along with the story. We even learned a little bit about a platypus. We continued with our letter study and worked on F, G, and H. We also added 'the' and 'little' to our sight words.
In Math, we learned to compare numbers using greater and less than. Students learned to use the symbols to compare two numbers less than 10. We described using the analogy of an alligator chomping. The alligator ( < >) is always hungry and likes to eat the bigger number. We had lots of fun doing this on paper, in Seesaw, and even using gummy bears. We also introduced First in Math this week and are working on becoming more proficient.
In Stemscopes, we began talking about extreme weather and why it is important to be prepared. Ask your child one thing they would do to get ready for a storm.
On Tuesday, we had our first Maker Space of the year. Since we were learning the letter F, we had a float challenge. Students had to create a boat using only aluminum foil and popsicle sticks. We then tested the boat to see if it would float and if it could hold legos.
