April's Newsletter
ELA MCAS 4/30 & 5/1---MATH MCAS 5/16 & 5/17
Social Studies-
April started with moving on to Ancient Rome where we dressed up as ancient Romans and were able to learn about Ancient Roman teenagers and what their lives were like. We then did a very difficult breakout box with Mrs. Thomas and it tested our knowledge and patience! We watched a documentary on Ancient Rome to introduce the topic and completed a WebQuest! Despite having a break, we have done so much this month!
In May, we will be working on the final project in class where students will have the opportunity to pick whatever topic they want to present to the class on Ancient Rome. Check Google Classroom for the guidelines, rubric, and deadlines. Students will get limited time in class to work on projects; most of the project will be completed outside of school. However, students are encouraged to use time after school to work on it. I stay every day Mon-Thurs (with the exception of Tuesdays) until 2:30. Students should give me a heads up if they plan on staying after. I cannot wait to see the final projects! I know the kids are excited!
Science-
Reading-
Happy Spring! As I mentioned to the students, this time of the year flies by. Please encourage your student to put forth 100% effort for each assignment. If they need any help, they should make arrangements to stay after school with the appropriate teacher.
Our Anne Frank unit continues. Students worked well on stations in the learning commons. They went on a virtual tour, conducted a scavenger hunt and learned valuable information while watching a video on Anne Frank and her family. We are almost finished with listening to the play, “The Diary of Anne Frank” by Francis Goodrich and Albert Hackett. Students have been working on comprehension questions as well as a crossword puzzle. We will have a test on this unit in the next few days. Spelling and vocabulary quizzes will continue after ELA MCAS testing on April 30th and May 1st.
Up next, we will look at the life and times of # 42 , Jackie Robinson.
Robinson said, “Baseball is like a poker game. Nobody wants to quit when he's losing; nobody wants you to quit when you're ahead."
Stay tuned for updates on Google Classroom.
English-
We have finished up our biography unit, with Mark Twain’s life along the mighty Mississippi River. And now, we have started the novel, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and loving the adventure! Please remind your child to review their
“Tom Sawyer” packet nightly. If they forget their packet or their book, it is on Google Classroom and the book has been put on their Chromebooks! You have to LOVE technology. Nothing can be left at home or at school! :)
The English MCAS test is April 30th and May 1st. Please make sure the kids get a lot of rest and eat a good breakfast the day of the test! We’ve been preparing all year, and I know they will do great!
Please keep checking Google Classroom for updates and homework.
Math-
Spring break is over. MCAS season has begun. We’ll have math MCAS on May 16th & May 17th. Our first test of term 4 will be on May 9 for A, B, & C blocks and on May 10 for E & F blocks.
