Patriot Pulse
September 1st, 2022 Edition
The '22-'23 school year is off to a terrific start! Students are acclimating well to our middle school model and our PBIS procedures. I am encouraged by the enthusiasm and goodwill displayed by our students in classrooms and around the building. Students are truly living up to the standard of the "Positive Patriot" we are setting at Grissom. The Positive Patriot is always ready to learn, respectful towards peers and adults, and empowered to make good decisions!
Our school-wide theme for the year is "You are the Future". Our focus is on preparing our students with the knowledge and relevant skills to succeed in their bright futures.
Read below for important information pertaining to school policies, offerings, and upcoming events.
Respectfully,
Mr. Michael Rumbaugh - Principal

Arrival and Dismissal
Thank you for your patience and courtesy during our student arrival and dismissal. While we try to make drop off and pick up as efficient as possible, student safety is ALWAYS our first priority. Refer back to our August 18th Patriot Pulse for more detailed information about arrival and dismissal procedures.
Helpful Notes for Car Rider Arrival and Dismissal
- Arrive early, if possible. Our staff is on hand to supervise starting at 8:25 AM, and traffic is usually lighter at this time. Students can be dropped off starting at this time. They are allowed to enter the building by 8:35 AM or sooner in the event of inclement weather.
- Pull up as far as possible at the 169th Street and Grissom Drive drop off and pick up locations. The more cars that can drop off or pick up at a time, the more efficient the process will be for everyone.
- Please observe posted signs. "No Student Drop Off / Pick Up" signs are clearly marked on the north side of 169th Street. Drivers who disregard these directions run the risk of being ticketed by the Tinley Park Police Department.

School Picture Day - September 7th
Picture day is next week!
A flyer was sent home with your child on August 31st with information about our school picture day. Individual school pictures will be taken on Wednesday, September 7th.
Parents have the opportunity to pre-order and pay for a picture package.
There is also an option for students to bring payment on picture day.
The informational flyer is also attached below.
Student Support - Beginning September 6th
Student Support will begin on Tuesday, September 6th in the Grissom Media Center. Student support is open to any student who wants to complete schoolwork in a supervised, quiet setting.
Before-school support is offered Monday - Friday starting at 8:00 A.M. Students attending can be dropped off at Grissom's main entrance. Students will not be able to enter the building before 8:00 A.M.
After-school support is offered Monday - Thursday until 4:05 P.M. An activity bus is available to take regular bus riders home at that time, if needed.
After School Activity Bus - Beginning September 6th
An after-school activity bus will be available ONLY for students who are legal bus riders starting September 6th. Students who attend after-school activities that last no later than 4:05 P.M. can take the bus home. Students who want to ride the activity bus must sign up. A digital sign up form will be publicized and sent to students in the very near future.
Lunch Drop Off
If you are dropping off a lunch for your child, please press the buzzer at the main entrance. The office staff will buzz you in, and you will leave the lunch on the shelf of the cart labeled with the correct grade level. PLEASE label the lunch bag and any other items with your child's name and grade level.
Fountain drinks are not permitted at lunch. Please do not deliver them to school.
We prefer that the person dropping off the lunch be a parent or family member. We discourage the use of delivery services for delivering student lunches. Too often, lunches are delivered after the scheduled lunch time and without any information for whom to give the lunch.
Reminder: Cell Phone Policy
Students are required to turn off their cell phones and put them away upon entering the building. Cell phones must be kept in the lockers until dismissal. Cell phones must remain turned off and out of sight until the students have exited the building.
Students who need to call home during the school day can do so by asking to use any phone in our classrooms or school office. Parents who need to contact their children can call the Grissom office at 708-429-3030 at any time during the school day.
