Biggest Bedtime Story
Cormier's annual Biggest Bedtime Story will be held on Thursday, January 23, 2020. Look for a flyer to come home in early January with additional information.
Outdoor/Indoor Clothing
With the cold weather upon us, please make sure you send your child to school every day with outdoor clothing (snow pants, boots, mittens, hat, and a warm coat). Please label all clothing with your child’s full name. We will have outdoor recess as long as the temperature and wind chill stay above zero degrees. Please dress your child in layers so they may take a layer off or add a layer if they get too hot or too cold during the school day. Always make sure your child has a pair of shoes to change into once they are inside the building. (Feet get very hot in boots if they wear them all day.)
Severe Weather / School Closings
Severe Weather Closings—When Ashwaubenon schools are closed due to severe weather, an announcement will be made on most local radio and television stations. In addition, parents/guardians will be informed via the district’s School Messenger notification system. The School Messenger system looks to PowerSchool for phone numbers and email addresses, so please keep PowerSchool updated with current information!
Emergency School Closing Plan—If it becomes necessary to close school after the start of the school day but before regular dismissal time, the announcement will be made on local radio and television stations. In addition, parents/guardians will be informed via the district’s School Messenger notification system.
Snow Day Make-ups—If it is necessary to close schools for severe weather more than the two days allotted in the district calendar, make-up days will typically be scheduled starting the day after the last regularly scheduled day of school in June. If this becomes necessary, notices will be sent home via newsletters.
School Delays -- In the event of a two-hour delayed start, the morning 4 year-old kindergarten classes will not meet. In the event of any early release, the afternoon 4 year-old kindergarten classes will not meet.
If school is open during stormy weather, parents have the right and responsibility to decide whether their children can safely attend school.
LIBRARY NEWS
Call Deb Danen or Kathy Rolling at 448-2875, ext. 7113, for more information regarding Cormier’s library.
Library Book Care Reminder
If a book becomes ripped or damaged, please send the book back to the library with a note so that the page(s) can be repaired with special book tape. Being kind to books is practiced during library but we need your help at home also.
Book Returns
The students are excited about checking out library books! Parents, please help your child remember his or her library book on their Library Day. You as parents can make it even more enjoyable by reading the book to your child before they return it to the library.
Library Book and Snow Don’t Mix
Snowy, wet weather is here to stay! In order to protect your child’s library books we ask that your child NOT stuff their backpacks or book bags with their wet snow pants, mittens, hats, and boots. Please use their Bee Book Bags or send along a plastic grocery bag or large ziploc bag that can be used to protect their library book from wet clothes and art projects with wet glue or glitter. We continue to remind students how important it is to take good care of their books. Please discuss this with your child at home also. Thank you for your help.
Birthday Book Club
We would like to thank the following student for their generous donation of new books for our library during the past month: Aralyn in Mrs. Crutcher’s class. What a wonderful way to show your support for our library. We really appreciate the books!! If you are wondering what to donate, this is a wonderful time of year to supply books with a winter or snowman theme.
Sticker Chart – Prizes Needed
To promote positive behavior when classes come to the library they will have the opportunity to earn a sticker on the library behavior chart. When a class has collected four stickers they will receive a reward — a prize from the treasure box! We would appreciate donations of simple prizes for our prize box. Due to health concerns we’d appreciate new or cleaned items only.
2nd RIF Distribution
Cormier’s second of three RIF distributions will be on Tuesday, February 4th , and all students will again be able to select a book to keep for their very own. We will be celebrating with the theme of “Franklin Loves Reading”. All students and staff are encouraged to wear green on that day.

Change in PowerSchool eRegistration
Beginning in January of 2020, there will be a change with our online registration process. Once logged into the PowerSchool Parent Portal, parents will see Ecollect Forms within the left menu. This will be where parents can go to update their information, including demographics, addresses, contacts, student history, health information and more. The previous E-Registration icon will be removed in January.
Please contact Mandy Schroeder, Information and Communications Coordinator, with any questions at mschroeder@ashwaubenonk12.org.

Open Enrollment Application Time!
What is Open Enrollment?
Open enrollment is a program that allows parents to apply for their child to attend school in a school district other than the one in which they reside. Applications for open enrollment will be accepted from February 3, 2020 through 4:00 pm on April 30, 2020.
Who is required to apply for Open Enrollment?
- Families that have moved out of the district between February 2019 and February 2020 and want their child(ren) to continue to attend school in the Ashwaubenon School District during the 2020-21 school year.
- Families that are anticipating a move to another district and would like their child(ren) to continue to attend the Ashwaubenon School District during the 2020-21 school year.
- Families that currently reside in another school district but would like their child(ren) to attend the Ashwaubenon School District during the 2020-21 school year.
- Families that reside in another district with a child(ren) currently open enrolled into Ashwaubenon must open enroll siblings that are not open enrolled and want to attend school in Ashwaubenon during the 2020-21 school year. Every child in a family must be open enrolled individually. Having a child(ren) currently open enrolled and attending does not automatically approve every child in the family. Families with children new to the district must apply for open enrollment even if they have siblings currently open enrolled.
You do not have to apply for Open Enrollment if…
If your child is currently open enrolled and attending school in Ashwaubenon, you do not have to re-apply for open enrollment for that child. Ashwaubenon does not require students currently attending schools in the Ashwaubenon School District through open enrollment to re-apply. Once they apply, are accepted and continue to attend our schools, they are open enrolled through graduation. However, if the open enrolled child has a sibling(s) new to the district in 2020-21, the sibling(s) must apply for open enrollment in February.
How do you apply for Open Enrollment?
The preferred method of applying for open enrollment is through the on-line application at https://dpi.wi.gov/open-enrollment. The on-line application will be available from Monday, February 3, 2020 through 4:00 pm on Thursday, April 30, 2020. There will be a link to this site on our district website beginning February 3rd. If you do not have access to the internet, paper applications will be accepted. Paper applications must be obtained and submitted to Jennifer Bower at the district office no earlier than February 3rd and no later than 4:00 pm on April 30th. A postmark does not meet this requirement.
If you have any questions about Open Enrollment or need a paper application sent to you, please contact Jennifer Bower at the District Office at 492-2905 ext. 1002.
