Farmington Family Newsletter

Message from the Principal
Hello!
We are excited to welcome students back to school after our Spring Break! We hope families have had time to relax, reconnect and enjoy some special activities together. The welcoming of Spring also includes the beginning of our Forward Exams. Our 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students will be taking the exam beginning April 5th. The exam is broken into small sections and will be taken over the course of several days. This is a chance for our students to show off the knowledge and skills they have learned!
Our PTO is working on several fun activities to take part in during the months of April and May, including the Spring Dance (April 22nd), and McTeacher Night (April 12th). Make sure to mark your calendars and join us for some Farmington Fun!
Some families that currently attend Kewaskum Elementary recently learned that they will be attending Farmington Elementary next school year. We know that change can bring about a lot of worry, concern, and fear. If you have any suggestions of what we can do to help welcome them to our amazing school, please let me know. We would like to have one, if not two events, before the beginning of the next school year to welcome these families and make sure they know how happy we are to have them join us!
We have some exciting news to share-our Farmington Building is getting some updated spaces! Over Spring Break, construction started on the old computer lab space, as it is transforming into a STEAM lab! This space will be perfect for buddy activities, and classes who would like more space for a project or activity! Make sure to take a peek the next time you stop in!
Take Care,
Angie Petersen

Elementary Transition Update
From Dr. Bazata:
Last Friday KES families who will be placed at FES next year were notified. We are working on creating some transition events between now and the end of the school year to help students who will be moving schools as smoothly and successfully as possible. Parents have the option to submit an intradistrict transfer request by May 6. Parents will be notified if their requests will be honored by June 10. Staff who will be transitioning to a new building because of the closure of the i4Learning building have been notified of their preliminary assignment for next year as well.
We continue to update our FAQ as new questions arise. We are also still accepting closed offers for the i4Learning building. At the May Board meeting, there will be a closed session where the Board and their legal counsel will review the offers.

Reminder:
- Please contact the office via phone call or email by 3:00 to make changes in regard to how your child(ren) will be getting home that day.
Thank you for all you do to support your child's education at home. If you ever have questions or suggestions, please feel free to reach out! We want you to reach the school and person you are trying to contact at FES quickly and efficiently. Please consider adding our school phone number to your phone contact list: 1-262-626-3102.
Updates from Around the Building
From our PBIS Committee:
Updated link-this one works!
The FES PBIS committee is looking to get some parent feedback and involvement. Our PBIS committee works on the school wide behavior structure as well as the school wide rewards system.
Please fill out the attached form if you are interested in becoming more involved with the PBIS committee at Farmington Elementary School. Currently we are just collecting names and email addresses of interested parents. If the link doesn't work for you, please contact Mrs. Seiser (kseiser@kewaskumschools.org) and give her your name and email address. You will be contacted with more information in the coming weeks.

Student Services Updates
Spring break is just around the corner. Keeping the family active without overdoing it seems to be a focus to create a healthy balance. Getting your children involved in the community can be a great thing!
Here are some upcoming area events families might want to look into:
FREE Fishing Clinic - Saturday, April 9th, 9am-3pm (Regner Park, West Bend)
Go for a FREE walk at Lac Lawrann Conservancy -- open 365 days a year, sun up to sun down!
Volunteer on a Tuesday or Thursday at Lac Lawrann to help prep plants for the upcoming sale
Visit Shalom Zoo -- drive through with your car of walk it, $10/person
Visit the Kewaskum Library for FREE storytime -- check out the other neat events coming up too!
Check out the West Bend Library Event calendar -- most events are free, but some require prior registration
Visit a Washington County Park -- $7/day or purchase a seasonal pass and enjoy the parks year round! (FREE day is April 5th)
During the week off, the family schedule is not as structured as on a school day, without kids needing to be up and ready to get to school on time. Sleep schedules often fluctuate and eating habits and meal times may not be as rigid. With these changes, it may be difficult for your children to get back on track in their return to the structured schedule that will return when they return to school from break Monday, April 4th. It is encouraged to help your children return to former sleep and eating patterns in order to help with that transition back to school. Having supper at a "normal hour" and creating a relaxing Sunday afternoon prior to break will help in that transition back to school.
If your child is in grades 3-5, it is especially important they come back well-rested and tummies full (our lunch program still offers breakfast to make sure of that! :) and Mrs. Peterson is making sure teachers also have snack baskets for the testing period as well). It is nothing the students need to stress about, but just need that extra encouragement to do their very best so we can accurately track what they have learned over this past school year.
HAPPY SPRING BREAK! Hope this time brings your children some fun, some relaxation, and some revitalization to come back to school ready to finish the year strong!

Summer School Opportunity for Incoming 6th Grade Students
Hello 5th Grade Parents!
My name is Ms. Kelly. I am a teacher at Kewaskum Middle School. I am here to inform you about the summer school class we offer for incoming 6th graders! My class is called, "Jump Into 6th Grade." During this class, we will jump into the basics of middle school and get your child ready for a successful 6th-grade year. We will explore organizational methods, study skills, team building, as well as learning basic skills needed for middle school. Last year's students thought this class was very beneficial- here is what they had to say:
"This class was beneficial to me because it helped my confidence and made me less nervous and showed me around the school." -Penelope
"After this class, I knew how to open a lock before school started, I knew how to properly write an email, and I knew how to control my time." -Beckett
"You should take it because it helps you stay organized and clean. If you take it you learn how to take notes." -Joel
"I relearned how to use google classroom, met some new people, and learned how to plan for myself." - Sophia
"One I met new friends. Two it helped us open locks. Three we learned our way around the school." -Eli
I hope to see your incoming 6th grade there!
**This is different than Jump to the Middle. Jump to the Middle is a one-day event that is offered in August for incoming 6th graders. Attending both of these opportunities is the best way to prepare your child for middle school!
