Walk-A-Thon Final Update!
What a Wonderful Walk-A-Thon!
Thank you, thank you, thank you - to all of the students, parents, teachers, principals, and staff who helped to make this year’s WALK-A-THON such a fantastic event! We raised more than $19,000 (which will be used to create a MakerSpace in the Media Center and to support many other PTO programs that occur throughout the school year). We also collected 84 pairs of shoes to donate to Free Store’s Back on Track Program! Maple Dale families are awesome!
Monday was a beautiful day. Collectively we sang, danced, walked, and ran for thousands of laps before our principals and more than 20 of our teachers volunteered to get silly stringed by 150 kids! We had a blast!
The winners of the classroom PJ Popcorn Parties are: PK: Battershell PM and Garrett PM (tie), K: Howard, 1st: Marino, 2nd: LeLoup, 3rd: Thiel, and 4th: Bates.
A Special Thank You!
The PTO Board would like to recognize and thank Heather Parzynski for her leadership of the Walk-A-Thon fundraiser. This is a very important PTO Chair position since the Walk-A-Thon is only one of two fundraisers sponsored by the Maple Dale PTO. It is critical each year for the Walk-A-Thon to meet its financial goal in order for the PTO to fund its programs for the students, staff and community, and contribute to a major improvement benefiting the school. Heather did an excellent job of organizing the many volunteers, coordinating walking schedules with the Maple Dale staff, sending out communications via the weekly electronic newsletter, and insuring everyone walked on a gorgeous autumn day. Thank you, Heather!
Notes from the Nurse
The nurse's office stock of clothes is running low and will gladly accept donations of lightly used items. We are especially in need of boys' and girls' pants in sizes 6-8, preferably with an elastic waist, as well as long sleeve shirts. Donations of lightly used or new kids' shoes, socks, underwear, and/or coats will also be much appreciated!
Girls on the Run Community Service Project
Giving back to the community is an important life lesson! For their community impact project, the Mon/Wed Girls on the Run team will be hosting a lemonade stand on Monday, October 31st after the Fall Harvest Parade until 4 p.m. All proceeds go to Giving Hope- Cincinnati Children's Hospital community philanthropy program.
The lemonade will cost 50 cents a cup. Please bring your spare change for a good cause!

Veterans Day Recognition on November 11th!
Dear Maple Dale families,
On Veterans Day, November 11th, we will give praise and thanks to the men and women who have served or actively serving in the military.
Last year, Maple Dale sent 21 boxes filled with snacks and letters to soldiers in the 101th Airborne (Assault) division. Since then, many of those soldiers have deployed. The soldiers sent this picture as a thank you for all the encouraging letters and snacks. We were told, there wasn’t a dry eye after reading your letters.
This year, Maple Dale Elementary will participate in “Support the Troops” by writing letters and collecting snacks to send to Air Guard (Air Force), Airborne (Army) and
1st Cavalry (Army).
Some units are deployed over seas and others are in full training mode for the next several months as they get ready for deployment. Your letters and snacks will bring a smile to these soldiers, who are far away from their families, protecting all of us.
Here are some of the snacks the soldiers like:
Any kind of cookies
Beef Jerky
Slim Jims
Nuts
Granola bars
protein bars
Candy - (This will be after Halloween so any left over candy is great!)
We would like to have all the snacks sent in by November 8th.
Dance for Kindness!
We are excited to take our philosophy of PeaceBuilders outside of our school and into the community. World Kindness Day is coming on November 13th (the time and location will be confirmed soon!). We invite each one of you to come and dance with us to show that kindness can truly make a difference.
We are hosting a private event representing the state of Ohio. The dance will be open to Maple Dale staff, students, families, and friends. It will also be open to the Sycamore APE program and their High School support students.
If you are interested in participating with us, please email Joy Nichols at nicholsj@sycamoreschools.org with the following information:
First and last name
Age
email address
This is a free event!
T-shirts can be ordered for $8.50, but all you really need is to wear orange.
Once Mrs. Nichols receives your email, you will receive the video of the 3-minute dance so you can start practicing. Additionally, we will have one practice before the event and one the day of the event.
The event will be aired worldwide as it is happening and a portion of our video will be in of the worldwide Montage Video that will be created in December.
Make a difference...come and dance with us!
The purpose of World Kindness Day is to look beyond ourselves- beyond the boundaries of our country, beyond our culture, our race, our religion, and realize that we are citizens of the world and that kindness is the common thread that unites us all.
