NHP Gladiator Gazette
Volume 1, Issue 6 - Week of November 30, 2015
December is here!
Tomorrow is December 1st. If you are anything like me, you probably cannot believe that this year has flown by so quickly! There have been many changes to the facilities here at New Hyde Park Memorial over the past year and plenty more to come in the future. Below are some photos of the new sod installed on the the soccer/lacrosse and baseball fields, sod being installed this morning on the softball field, as well as the new turf field with the newly installed press box. Within the next week this phase of the bond project will be complete. Then we will anxiously wait the next phase of the bond to start soon that will include the revamping of our auditorium and parking lots, plus more! Stay tuned to the Gazette for updates and photos.
Have an enjoyable week!

F.B.L.A. Attends Fall Leadership Conference
On Friday, November 20, 2015 the F.B.L.A. Fall Leadership Conference brought together the district F.B.L.A. clubs and other high school F.B.L.A. clubs from Long Island together to share a memorable experience held at L.I.U.-Post’s Brookville Campus.
At the conference, officers had the opportunity to participate in seminars entitled Digital Marketing, Cyber Security, and many others. These seminars introduced our officers to an array of skills and lessons that can be used for the future of the club and serve to benefit club members in their future. The events were organized in a timely manner; live conversations with college professors would give officers a firsthand experience. These workshops provided a meaningful message for many of the officers who are college bound.
The overall experience of meeting the officers from the other schools was an honor that all the officers enjoyed and shared. Hearing the ideas and goals from students outside New Hyde Park for the club was superb, which our Co-President’s, Elizabeth Duong and Kishan Patel, plan to implement in our F.B.L.A. club at New Hyde Park Memorial. The F.B.L.A. leadership conference was a wonderful experience for all the advisors and officers in the F.B.L.A. Club.

Student Safety is of the Utmost Concern! - Still an issue??
I know that this was in the last edition, and in the edition prior - BUT, I can not stress this enough - and the safety issues are still occuring!!! The safety of all our students is first and foremost. I ask that all parents adhere to street signs and the rules of the road. Please do not double park or make U turns on Leonard or Evergreen; drive slowly and wait for students to cross the street. The parking lot off of Evergreen Ave is for staff and buses only, and should not be used as a drop off location. Again, the safety of our students is our number one priority. Thanks for adhering to these simple, yet important "rules of the road."

Turkey Basket Fundraiser in conjunction with the New Hyde Park Lions Club
Throughout the past two weeks , the New Hyde Park Music Department and the Tri-M Music Honor Society hosted a Turkey Basket Fundraiser in conjunction with the New Hyde Park Lions Club.
The two groups were able to collect $830.00 to buy 30 turkeys. This has been the most money the Music Department and the Tri-M music Honor Society have collected for this event. They also generously donated cans and money to care for the underprivileged and families in need within our community.
Both groups would like to say thank you to everybody who donated their money and time to help the Turkey Basket fundraiser become a success. They would also like to say thank you to their advisor, Ms. Tomkiw, for putting endless amounts of effort to help the Music Department gather a record breaking amount of money.
