Southern Boone Primary
2022-2023 Welcome Back Information
Mrs. Clark's Welcome Letter
August 17, 2022
Dear Primary Families,
Hello and welcome to the 2022 – 2023 school year! Our mission at Southern Boone Primary is One Team, One Goal: Student Success! This is just the beginning of what will be a very successful school year for everyone involved. Whether you are a returning family or brand new to our school, I can assure you that you are in a great place! We are looking forward to meeting and spending time with all of you.
I am extremely excited about the upcoming year and what it holds for our students. I begin my eighth year as principal after eight years of teaching in the primary grade levels. This time has been wonderful, as I have watched our students’ blossom and grow as your child will undoubtedly do this year. My heart and soul are completely invested in this school district as I am a proud Southern Boone graduate. It is a true honor, having grown up in this district to be the principal of such an amazing school.
This year we welcome many new staff members to our building and celebrate our continued growth. What an amazing group of professionals to add to our school!
Our new changes or new teachers are:
Betty Bartlett moved from Special Education Paraprofessional to Library Instructional Aide
Anne Brush moved from Second Grade to First Grade Teacher
Lindsey Hammann, Kindergarten Teacher
Emilee Holt and Abby Mirly, Learning Specialists in Special Education
Karen Cook and Carolyn Hamlin, Primary Special Education Paraprofessionals
Emily Plank, Special Education Life Skills for Primary and Elementary
Courtney Seeley, Art Teacher
I strongly encourage you to take an active part in your child’s education by asking him/her about school each day; reading with your child daily; promoting healthy habits like getting plenty of rest and balanced meals; being positive about school and learning; getting involved; setting expectations; and making school important by insisting on good attendance and punctuality.
We will be releasing students at 2:00 p.m. each Wednesday for teacher professional learning and collaboration beginning Wednesday, September 7th.
We are committed to creating a top quality, exemplary school by promoting a warm and nurturing environment, maintaining a continuous focus on improvement of instructional practice, and setting high standards for everyone in our school. We look forward to seeing you at the Open House on Thursday, September 1st. You may visit your child’s classroom and meet your child’s teacher anytime between 5:00-7:00pm. We encourage you to bring your child’s school supplies at that time.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call myself or Lucas Karr, Primary Assistant Principal at (573)-657-2148 or email us at bclark@sbschools.us or lkarr@sbschools.us. Working together, we can continue to create a top quality school!
Sincerely,
Brandy Clark
Principal

Primary Building Information
Entrance into the Primary Building
Doors will be opened at 7:30 a.m. for students to enter the building. Students should not arrive before this time. When students enter the building they will go to the cafeteria for breakfast or the gym until 7:45 a.m. At 7:45 a.m. students will be released to classrooms. Please note that school begins promptly at 8:00 a.m. All students are to be in the classroom by 8:00 a.m. Students arriving after 8:00 am will need to check into the office and will be walked to class by a staff member when needed.
Our front doors are locked by 8:10 a.m. each morning. If you arrive after this time, you will need to use the buzzer (located by the door farthest to the right) for your student to be admitted into the building. A student arriving at 8:10 a.m. or later will need to have an adult walk him/her to the front door of the building and be signed in with the office.
Dismissing From School
If a transportation change is needed, we ask that you call the school at (573)657-2148 prior to 2:30 PM each day (1:30 on Wednesday).
Students will be dismissed by grade level. We will begin dismissing bus riders, by grade level, at 3:05 PM followed by walkers, then parent pick-ups. We will have a drive-thru pick-up system. We will not be allowing parents into the building during dismissal.
Below are the specific details for pick-up:
Kindergarten and siblings: Will be picked up using the parking lot on the West side of the Primary building. Staff will ensure that kindergarten siblings will be in the back. (Please see the picture map below for more details)
1st and 2nd Grade: Will be picked up using the front drive of the Primary building. We will have a 1st grade line and a 2nd grade line. If there are 1st and 2nd grade siblings, they will need to be picked up using the 1st grade line. (Please see the picture map below for more details)
For siblings in the Primary, the older sibling will be picked up at the younger sibling’s pick-up location. For example, kindergarten and second grade siblings will be picked up at the kindergarten pick-up location. If there is an older sibling attending school at the Elementary, we would encourage them to walk from the Elementary to the Primary with the “walkers” to meet the younger sibling(s) at their designated pick-up location. We will be providing signs for each family with the last name of the teacher and student to be displayed during dismissal. Please make sure that these are visible during pick-up. The first few days are always a little hectic at dismissal until everyone becomes familiar with the routine. Thank you in advance for your patience!
Students will be assigned a device solely for their own use at school. Students will be responsible for caring for their device and using it for its intended educational purposes.
The Southern Boone R-1 District is offering an optional protection plan for all student Chromebooks and iPads. If you opt out of the plan, the cost for repairing the Chromebook and iPad is then the full responsibility of the Student/Parent, not to exceed the total replacement cost.

- Allows you to electronically sign permissions/agreements that are required each year.

Here is the link you can use to access your Parent Portal: https://sdm.sisk12.com/sb360x3/login
Make sure the tab is on “Parent” before you enter your user name and password. If you are unable to remember your user name and/or password, please email Missy Kirmse at the address below to have your password reset. Once you are at your parent portal home page, there is a yellow box that will say “Online Registration must be completed for the 2022-2023 Year." Click on that box and it will take you to your registration forms. At this time, online registration is NOT available through your phone app.

Free and Reduced Meal Application
With the new school year starting soon, the Southern Boone School District is urging families to complete the free or reduced meal application as part of the online registration process.
The Federal USDA Waiver that allowed school districts to provide meals at no cost to students has expired. The USDA did NOT extend the Federal Waiver for the upcoming school year.
Parents are asked to fill out the 2022-2023 Free and Reduced Meal Application for the upcoming 2022-2023 school year. The school district is encouraging all families to fill out an application. Even if you think your family won’t qualify, your application can help the school district in many different areas including federal funding and qualifying for grants. Completing an application is the only way to be considered for free or reduced meals.
You can fill out the application online or download and print off a paper copy of the application. You can turn in the completed form to your child’s school office or central office.
If you have any questions regarding free or reduced meals or need assistance with filling out an application, please call Southern Boone Central Office at 573-657-2147.
