As a star kicker on the Cathedral Catholic High School Football team, Christian Fanning of Eastern Washington Football led the team to a 12-1 season as a junior, the same year he was named a San Diego Section Player of the Week. As a senior he kicked a fifty-one yard field goal, his longest that season, and also made three-pointers from forty-five and forty-three yards.
A player named Dana Dalton broke new ground when she became the first female player to join the Cathedral Catholic football team. She was already a soccer star, and the Cathedral Catholic football players said she they were impressed with her kicking ability. When asked, she said her family was giving her a lot of support as she began playing football, then added, "Christian Fanning [has] been helping me a lot, too."

He has been a strong kicker through youth football programs and on into high school, where he was the star kicker for the Cathedral Catholic Dons. He was thrilled to be recruited by the Eastern Washington University football program.
From the seventh through the twelfth grades, Christian Fanning of Eastern Washington Football was involved with a philanthropic group called Teen Volunteers in Action, a San Diego organization whose purpose was and is exclusively educational and charitable. Through the TVIA, Christian Fanning of Eastern Washington Football got involved in numerous community causes, including serving the homeless, distributing and sorting food at local food banks, working with physically and emotionally handicapped people, taking part in neighborhood cleanups, and working with foster care youth, refugees, and seniors. When he was in the eighth grade, Christian Fanning of Eastern Washington Football got involved in the TVIA's Leadership Council and stayed with it through the twelfth grade.

Head Coach Beau Baldwin will open practice for the team on July 31, with the season opener less than one month after that on August 23 against Sam Houston State. The game will be televised on ESPN.

Christian Fanning of Eastern Washington Football spent several years working closely with TKS coaches and, in particular during 2012, which was his junior year at Cathedral Catholic. Christian Fanning of Eastern Washington Football had already demonstrated great abilities as a kicker and his coaches were sure he was destined for greater things. Because of that, the TKS staffers said they were honored to be working with him again.“Christian, who has been working on his field goals from the ground, hit a few 50 yard kicks,” one of the coaches said in describing that day. “Still working on his overall contact, we proceeded to work on [the] depth of his plant foot, [the] angle of his kicking foot, and staying more straight up to keep his hips in line and square.
