Native American and Indigenous People’s Month!
November is National Native American Heritage Month, as we celebrate and recognize Native American Culture. This celebration and recognition began in 1990 when former President George H.W. Bush signed a joint resolution. In 1915, the Congress of the American Indian Association made plans. It approved a plan to help recognize and honor Native Americans, calling it American Indian Day. This would take place on the second Saturday of May. Thus, the first American Indian Day would be celebrated in 1916 in May in New York City. In addition, several states, including Virginia and Washington D.C., celebrate Indigenous People’s Day on Columbus Day.
