Lorenzo Walker Technical High School Mission "Purpose" Statement
Florida Trend Magazine Article
LWTHS was featured in the November 2016 article of Florida Trend. LWTHS was recognized as being the top Title 1 Non-Charter school in the state of Florida based on the school grading accountability. This month the Florida Trends publication highlighted LWTHS as well as other high performing schools. The article noted that the top performing schools tend to be non-traditional or special schools who have a special focus such as career dual-enrollment. Our school's success is based on the ability for LWTHS students to enroll in career dual-enrollment programs at Lorenzo Walker Technical College as juniors and seniors. Based on our student survey last year, 89% of our current high school students chose to apply to LWTHS because of the technical college experience.
The accolades come as a direct result of all of the hard work and dedication from our staff and students. The rest of Florida is becoming aware of what we already know: LWTHS is a special place to learn and work. The article is also posted to our website, Facebook page and Twitter.

Lorenzo Walker Technical College - Program of the Month - Automotive Service Technology
Aurelio Saavedra’s career goal is to find a job as an automotive service technician. Once he has fully developed his skills through years of experience working in a dealership service department, Aurelio hopes to become an entrepreneur and open his own auto repair shop. Aurelio, like his classmates, enrolled in the LWTC full-time Automotive Service Technology program to acquire the skills and experience needed to be a successful auto service technician. “Time is money in this industry,” Aurelio said. “If you exceed the time estimated for an auto repair, you lose money.” He added “the faster you get a job done, the more you will profit.”
Aurelio stated that his favorite aspect of the program is the level of skills and experience displayed by the LWTC Automotive Service Technology instructors and staff. “It’s incredible the amount of knowledge and expertise in the industry that they have,” Aurelio said. Pete Wise, another student in the program, cited the positive interaction among students and instructors as one of the program’s best features. “We have a good core of people here,” Pete said. He added that the students form collaborative work groups, each with a team leader, and function effectively in a cooperative learning environment. Both Aurelio and Pete discovered the program through friends who successfully completed the course. In fact, Aurelio’s friend now operates his own auto repair shop in Bonita Springs.
Aurelio Saavedra and Pete Wise use a DVOM (digital volt-ohm meter) to test an
automobile for a drain in the electrical system (parasitic draw). This is one of many skills students learn as part of hands-on training in the LWTC Automotive Service Technology program.
