RECESS FIRST: FOR HAPPIER, HEALTHIER KIDS!
In sync with several other CB Elementary Schools, Pine Run has adopted the Recess First PLAN. By scheduling recess before lunch, we hope to reap the many benefits found in research and in our own district.
Some of the highlighted benefits include:
- Calmer cafeteria periods
- More relaxed eaters
- Students returning to classrooms more able and ready to learn
- Students drinking more milk
- Students eating more food and throwing away less
- Students eating more fruits and vegetables
- Fewer behavior challenges
- Fewer visits to the school nurse
Of course sanitary practices are paramount in our Recess First Plan. During the first day of school students were instructed and supervised as they used the hand sanitizer provided. This practice will continue and be closely monitored going forward.
