Principal Points
Two of our staff members, Sarah and Brooklyn met with Mrs. K this week to talk about how the school year is going so far.
- The school culture seems to be changing, we are setting expectations higher and therefore making DMS a safer place for your children to learn. Let's lessen the things that distract us so we can focus on academics. After all, that is the real reason we are all here.
- Congratulations 8th Graders! You are really stepping it up this year. As a whole, they are behaving well, keeping grades up and getting to school on time. 7th graders will be having a class meeting on October 31st in the gym to reiterate school rules, bathroom usage and lunch time behaviors.
- Some students are stealing water and juice from the cafeteria and this much stop!
- Spirit shirts are worn only on Tuesday and Thursday. Remember, red is NOT a school color.
What's upcoming?
- There is an informal "student social hour" in the works. More info on that soon.
- Get ready for 2nd quarter, which starts on MONDAY! Now is a good time to clean out your book bag. Get rid of the trash at the bottom, take out the used up supplies and old projects. Pack only what you need on a daily basis.
- IXL math will be active and able to be used during Trojan Time starting the 2nd quarter.
- GameDay will have several new apparel school approved items in their store for Winter.
- Enjoy your weekend!

Short Story: The King and The Spider
Vikram took shelter in a forest cave. He was very depressed. His courage had left him. He was blankly gazing at the ceiling of the cave. An interesting scene captured his attention.
A small spider was trying to weave a web across the cave ceiling. As the spider crawled up, a thread of the web broke and the spider fell down. But the spider did not give up. He tried to climb again and again. Finally, the spider successfully climbed up and completed the web.
Vikram began to think, "If a small spider can face failure so bravely, why should I give up? I will try with all might till I win". This thought gave strength to the defeated king.
Vikram got out of the jungle and collected his brave soldiers. He fought against the large army. He was defeated again. But now, he would not give up his fight.
Vikram again and again fought against the large army and finally, after many attempts defeated the large army and regained his kingdom. He learned a lesson from the spider, Never give up.
