BCIT MEDFORD NEWSLETTER
NOVEMBER 2015
Message from the Principal...
As we conclude the first marking period of the 2015-16 school year, the Medford campus is in full swing with student activities and rigorous academic challenges. The November newsletter will highlight several student activities that are upcoming or have recently taken place. Updated PARCC information will be provided as the Medford campus begins the first semester’s testing sessions.
Student Activities:
On November 12th, the Medford campus inducted the new 2015 National Honor Society members. This ceremony was an emotional program that spotlighted the inductees and their sponsors.
2015 Homecoming Dance had over 300 students participate in this wonderful event, as they danced the night away during this semi-formal affair.
The annual Mr. BCIT competition will take place on November 25th during the school day before we head to break. This event is always a popular program that the students body will see select male students compete in various events to determine MR. BCIT for 2015.
As the second marking period begins on November 17th, all new Medford students will be placed in their final CTE programs. This is a competitive process and is a vital component of a student’s education at BCIT. If you have any questions, regarding your son or daughter’s placement please do not hesitate to contact the guidance department.
Once again the BCIT Medford family would like to wish everyone a great year and to always feel free to contact the school if you have any questions.
Please have a safe and enjoyable fall break!!!
Mike Parker
Principal

BCIT Medford: SKILLS USA 2015-2016
Skills-USA is national organization designed to develop and maintain a skilled workforce in America. Skills-USA provides standards and structure for vocational and technical contests, which are held at local, state, and national levels. In December and January, career major shops will hold local competitions during the school day to determine which students are able to move on to compete in state-level competitions in the Spring. In the Spring, State competitions will be held to determine who can represent New Jersey in the National Competitions, held in late June in Louisville, Kentucky.
Students in all career majors are encouraged to join Skills-USA. In addition to career-major based competitions, such as baking, carpentry, robotics, and automotive repair, Skills-USA offers contests in areas of general interest, such as job-interview skills, public speaking, and technical mathematics, and creation of vocational displays. Regardless of a student’s performance in a contest, participation in Skills-USA provides valuable insights and outcomes which can last a lifetime. It provides quality education experiences for students in leadership, teamwork, citizenship and character development. It builds and reinforces self-confidence, work attitudes and communications skills. There is a place for all students in Skills-USA.
