QR Codes....even PreK can use them to "Show What They Know"
On November 7, 2016, RPDC Technology Specialist, Diane Gremp, partnered with MVR-III Community School & the Collaborative Grant process to foster technology in the PreK classroom. "Using QR codes..... We thought with our PreK language learners this was a great way to get them talking more and answering questions. What a better way than to use their own artwork. They loved doing it too! A few of them had to redo a few times, but it was awesome!" stated Mrs. Patty Byous
The PreK artwork was on display at Central office during the month of November to showcase what PreK students "know and can do" and the integration of technology even at the PreK level.
Thank you to Diane Gremp for this PD! Community school immediately put this to good use.

PHS Kids Against Hunger Service Project
Mrs. Pfeiffer's Leadership class organized a service learning activity with the Washington overseas mission-Kids against Hunger program out of Washington, Missouri. Mrs. Pfeiffer's class solicited a few clubs at PHS to raise $800 to pay to pack 21 cases for the service project. The participating PHS clubs & contributions were DECA ($350), FBLA ($100), FCCLA ($100), HOSA ($100), and French Club ($150). Each donated case of food holds 36 packets that feed 6 people each. The project concluded with packing 21 cases which all included 4,536 meals. These cases are going to a mission trip planned early in January 2017 to Honduras with a group of volunteer doctors from the Washington area. It is a great activity and for a wonderful cause.

Student Engagement: Strengthening the Desire to Learn
If classroom instruction is the raw material of education, student engagement is the catalyst that turns instruction into learning. Strengthen your students' desire to learn by ensuring school is a relevant and meaningful experience. Achieving an engaging classroom involves teachers employing various instructional strategies, identifying struggling students, and providing interventions.

Keeping Students Engaged in Learning before the Holiday Break
PD Forms going all electronic soon....
All PD forms are going electronic beginning in January…that includes Applications for Workshops, PL Summaries, Approval of Advanced Work, Networking Opportunities, etc. PDC is hoping this electronic move take some paperwork of teachers' plates, wait time for approval, and streamline the approval process. We are excited that it will also help with asking for a sub because the electronica application for a workshop request once approved will populate to Aesop setting up the substitute request in motion automatically without teachers having to do an extra step. Plans are moving forward to have this process in place by second semester. In the meantime, thank you for following the current process related to all things PD.

Read, Right, and Run Making a Difference for Students and Community
Email from a Family to Zitzman Elementary:
"To Whom it May Concern: I just wanted to share an amazing experience we had with one of your students, Ethan. He is participating in the Read, Right and Run Program and has Mrs Haberkorn. As a new parent to an almost 2 week old, my husband and I were looking for someone to help with raking our yard. His mom Jessica reached out to us and explained this wonderful program that her son was involved with and offered to do our yard as an act of kindness. They raked our yard as a family and we are forever grateful! Thank you for raising such wonderful students at your school. As an educator and someone who studied Character Development (Character Education) I am beyond impressed! We are on a journey now to challenge other families! Thank you again!"
Signed a grateful parent/community member
