Holiday Wrapped Book Event
Our student book club would like to gift you with a great read during your holiday break! They've selected a variety of books and wrapped them up so you won’t know the ‘identity’ of your book until you check it out and unwrap it. You may end up having a great read with something you wouldn’t have selected yourself!
De-stress Coloring
The week before final exams can be stressful for all. Students can come to the IMC during their lunch hours to de-stress with calming coloring pages.
DIY Holiday Book Ornaments
We're upcycling damaged books to make holiday book ornaments. Stop by the IMC during the lunch hours to make your holiday book ornament using pages from damaged books. Supplies are provided!
We're decked out for the holidays!
Book Pass
Ms. Utesch and Mrs. Garard's classes participated in a book pass activity which gave students more time to preview new books in the IMC as well as different genres while also providing them with list of books for future reading with the BookPass Log.
Abe All-Star Reader
Leah Monagle is the first student at West to read all 20 of this year's Abe Book Award nominees. She's a voracious reader, a member of our student book club, and she's applied to be on the student Abe book award nominee selection committee. Here's a picture with two of her favorite books from this year's Abe nominees.

Information Literacy
The articles below show just how important it is to teach our students information literacy skills. I am always happy to show your students how to effectively access information for research assignments and how to evaluate the credibility of information sources.
First Semester Textbook Return Procedures
*If your class is a year long class, your books do not need to be returned or renewed. *If you have a classroom set of textbooks and will be teaching that class again, your books do not need to be returned.
All teachers of semester long classes are asked to follow the procedures listed below.
- Please start reminding your students that they will need to return their books on the day of the final. December graduates need to return all textbooks to the IMC before they leave.
- The day of the final, send students who do not have their books back to their locker to get it before the exam period begins.
- When you are ready to give your exam, have your students put all textbooks on your empty overhead cart. Please include any textbooks left in your room, such as books left on the counter or under desks. If you no longer have an overhead cart, you can borrow a cart from the IMC or simply stack the books on the floor in the hallway.
- Place the cart in the hallway outside your classroom. The earlier in the exam period you can do this is very helpful.
- Inform any student who does not return their textbook at exam time that they are responsible for returning the textbook to the IMC before they leave for winter break.
Please let me know if you have any questions. I appreciate your help!
