FOURTH GRADERS MAKING PUMPKIN BREAD
DELICIOUS LOOKING PUMPKIN BREAD
MAKING CARDS FOR THE DONATED THANKSGIVING BASKETS
LET'S CELEBRATE
- Fourth graders were lucky to have parent, Jamie Charlson, in their classroom. Jamie brought homegrown pumpkins in for kids to seed. We roasted the seeds and baked pumpkin bread. Students created Thanksgiving cards for our Thanksgiving Basket Project. It is clear that kids can make a difference in the world!
- 6th grade Spanish students made calveras de azúcar (sugar skulls) for Día de los Muertos. They gave names to the calaveras and presented them to the class. They were very colorful!
- 7th grade Spanish students prepared Spanish foods, such as sweet empanadas, tres leches cake, and savory quesadillas. On Día de los Muertos, the 7thgrade French students were invited to partake of the Spanish fare. ¡Buen provecho!
- CCS 4th graders are using library time to research, design and construct their very own cardboard versions of "Little Free Libraries" to be unveiled to the staff and middle schoolers when finished.
- Kudos to Grace, Ella, Joe, and Harry for volunteering to help out in the cafe on Mondays at the Senior Center. Kudos to Charlotte Central School for preparing them to do so well--cleaning tables, greeting diners, serving soup, and much much more. Yesterday was our first time this year, and I wish everyone could have seen all the smiles--from sixth graders, from cooks, and from people who came to lunch. Our school has a wonderful outreach program that gives students an ongoing experience of helping others all around town. I take great pride in watching the students at work. NEUROSURGEONS VISIT CCS 5TH GRADE
Dr. Susan Durham and Dr. Scott Lollis created an amazing experience for the students today, opening their minds (pun intended) to the wonders of the human brain. Students learned about the brain, got to try out drilling into anatomically accurate skulls, practiced inserting screws in skulls, and even got to see and feel a real human brain. A special thank you to Susan and Scott for putting this together (and for having the courage to let 5th graders try out actual tools used for neurosurgery!).
We would like to invite other parents in Science/Technology/Math fields to consider coming in to present to CCS students. If you've got a cool idea or experience you'd like to share with the students please contact David Baird (dbaird@cssu.org) or Katie Fraser (kfraser@cssu.org) and can try to put together more experiences like the one the kids had today.

CCS PTO ANNUAL FUND 2016/2017
Annual Fund
It is time for our annual fundraising activity! With full participation, we can reach our goal of $10,000! We encourage families to make a confidential monetary donation at any level.
Read-a-Thon
This year, all students can participate in a Read-a-Thon! Please use the chart on the flip side of this page to track pledges and minutes or books read. We hope this will provide a fun opportunity for the students to get directly involved with helping raise money for their school.
Once all of the money has been deposited, the class with the highest percentage of participation will receive a $100 gift card to the Flying Pig. Your donation will go directly to fund programs and grants like Four Winds, Young Writers Project, Residency programs, Author visits, the kitchen lab, music equipment, and more.
Deadline for all donations to be turned in to PTO will be December 12th. Donations will be accepted after this deadline, however they will not count toward the class participation award. You may use cash or check to pay, and watch our weekly newsletter for a Paypal option, coming soon as well. Contact ccspto@cssu.org with any questions.
Please submit the below slip, along with your payment in an envelope to your student(s) homeroom teacher(s), by placing it in the PTO mailbox at school, or by mailing to CCS PTO, PO Box 244, Charlotte VT 05445.
