**STUDENT ABSENCE REPORTING**
Recently we have seen an increase in "unexcused" absences of middle school students. Unless an absence timeline is stated by a parent or guardian, if your student will be absent, families need to call or email the main office on a daily basis.
Excusable reasons for an absence:
- illness
- appointment
- religious holiday
- family emergency
- planned absence
For Planned Absences (a day out of school which is not illness or medical appointment related), families should fill out the Scarborough Middle School Planned Absence form, which is found here.
For questions about attendance, please contact the Scarborough Middle School main office at 207-730-4800 or email us at msoffice@scarboroughschools.org
POOLED TESTING
Scarborough Public Schools has compiled a webpage to ensure that our families have the most up-to-date information related to COVID-19 and how are schools are responding. The intent is to provide a central location for all communication with families.
Information and reminders on Pooled Testing and the positive COVID-19 reporting Forms for each of our schools can be found on this webpage.

SMS ATHLETICS
Winter Sports 2 Registration is OPEN (For Grades 7 & 8)
Scarborough Middle School Athletic Families,
Registration for Winter 2 Sport 2021-2022 at the Middle School is now open and accepting registrations through FamilyID. The registration form may be found on the homepage at Scarboroughredstorm.org, at FamilyID.com or by clicking here and must be completed by a Parent/Guardian. It is important that you make sure you register your child as soon as possible so that the department has sufficient time to look over all registration prior to the start of the season. Registering your child late may hinder their ability to participate on the first day and may result in not getting further communication regarding your child's sport(s).
Sports Start Dates:
Swim, Wrestling & Indoor Track - Monday, February 7, 2022
*Schedule for sports games and practices, when activated, may be found here ⇢ these schedules can always be found at this link.
More information on SMS Winter 2 Sports can be found here.
AFTER SCHOOL SPECTATORS NOTICE
Scarborough Middle School Families,
We would like to, first, applaud our middle school student body for their attendance and support for the middle school basketball teams thus far in the season. For our first two home basketball contests we have had a good number of students come out to cheer on their school counterparts, this shows great school pride.
As you may know Scarborough Public Schools has a masking policy in which any individual (regardless of vaccination status) must be masked at all times inside any SPS building. While in attendance at after school events, our student body has been good about following this policy, with the exception of bringing food items into the gym. We have noticed that students who have been without their masks for any particular amount of time have done so because of consuming these food items.
To further allow student spectators at these events and to continue to offer a safe environment, this is something we must remedy. Moving forward, we will not be allowing food or drink inside the middle school gym. Exception to this policy is for student-athletes to drink water as needed during activity by lowering their mask briefly.
In an effort to continue to create a safe environment for after school events with spectators and to continue to allow students to support, show school pride and grow school spirit we ask that you share the above information with your child if they plan on attending an after school event. These guidelines should be closely followed by your child.
We appreciate your help and support as we move forward! As always GO STORM🌩!!
