PRINCIPAL'S DESK
Dear Wildcat Students & Parents,
I'm thrilled to share with you that the Jefferson staff is working on converting many of our extracurricular events to remote experiences for students. We are developing virtual formats for athletics, intramural, and clubs. Additionally, we also have several supervision positions (AM outdoor, lunch, etc.) that are not currently running or necessary in a remote learning environment and providing staff the opportunity to develop new remote experiences for our students.
Although remote learning has created many challenges for all of us, there are unique opportunities now that we could have never been able to do in the past. More details will be shared with students and parents as new clubs and experiences become available during remote learning. Below are two examples of remote experiences we are able to offer starting this week. We encourage all students to become involved in at least one extracurricular program at Jefferson to learn something new, get connected, and make some new friends. Stay tuned as other opportunities are coming soon. It's a great day to be a WILDCAT!!!

Labor Day Monday - No School
Cross Coutry Team
Jefferson's Cross Country coaches are starting the season Wednesday September 9th. Those participating in Cross Country will join a synchronous zoom check-in/check-out at the beginning of each session, daily from 3:15 to 4:00. The team members will be given a daily training goal to complete on their own. We will have statistics updated daily on Cross Country Google Classroom Sheets. The team will participate in virtual competitions. The goal for students is to have fun, stay connected, and promote healthy habits.
All participants must have a Sports Physical and Concussion Form on file in order to participate. Both of these forms are available in our backpack on our website as well as in the Google Classroom for the team. For more information contact Mrs. Gerber or Mr. Schoonveld.

Overnight Internet Access Limits on D45 Divices
Beginning on Tuesday , September 8, 2020, Internet access will be disabled each night from 12:00am to 5:00am on all student issued D45 devices at the middle school level.
Why is the District limiting internet access during these times?
- Wellness of our students is the primary reason for limiting access.
- “The American Academy of Sleep Medicine has recommended that children aged 6–12 years should regularly sleep 9–12 hours per 24 hours and teenagers aged 13–18 years should sleep 8–10 hours per 24 hours.” (CDC)
- “Studies show that using digital media at night can interfere with sleep quality. Consider restricting the use of phones, tablets and computers for at least 30 minutes before bed. Think twice about letting your child use those devices in his or her bedroom after lights out.” (APA)
- GoGuardian alerts during these times indicate a higher level of attempted inappropriate internet use compared to other times of the day.
- GoGuardian is the District’s internet content filter. Each time a device attempts to connect to a blocked page, the District logs the unsuccessful attempt.
- Hotspots checked out from the District have been hitting usage limits and are unavailable for curricular activities.
What resources are available to help navigate technology use at home?
