WEEKLY EDITION - May 18th - May 22nd
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE: Distance Learning - Week Six!
It is amazing how quickly the school year is coming to an end. With assessments happening over the next few weeks, there should be less of an assignment load from teachers. I want to thank all the families who have already returned library books! I also want to thank students who are participating in our Only One You - Make the World a Better Place Rock Garden. Many have already brought their painted rocks to school! Please see last week's newsletter with all the details about how to participate. We will share some pictures of those beautiful rocks in the last few newsletters of the school year.
There is much to read about below. Please scroll down and watch for the important information that pertains to you. As always, please feel free to reach out to any of our staff members through e-mail if you have any questions or concerns.
All my best,
Tina Croes
Boulder Creek 8th Grade Graduation Drive-Thru Ceremony
In an effort to send our 8th graders off to high school and say our final goodbyes in a special way, we will be holding a drive-thru ceremony in Boulder Creek’s front parking lot during our regularly scheduled graduation date and time, June 2, 2020, at 6:00 p.m. The 8th-grade teachers, administration, and other staff members will be on-hand and socially distanced to welcome our graduates and their families. We will need to limit the number of people in attendance to include one vehicle (no tows, RVs, busses, etc) for each of our 93 graduates and their immediate family (those who live with them). All family members will remain in their vehicles at all times with the exception of the graduate who will only get out of the vehicle once it reaches the front of the line at the graduation stage area. At that time, the graduate’s name will be announced on a sound system along with any special honors. He/she will receive the diploma, awards, and program from staff members who are taking the appropriate health and safety precautions. We will provide a photographer to take a picture of your graduate receiving his/her diploma in order to allow all family members to remain in their vehicles. If students have borrowed a graduation gown, they will return the gown to an attendant on their way out of the parking lot.
All 8th-grade students should complete the graduation slide assignment provided by their English teacher, as this is a piece of Boulder Creek’s traditional graduation ceremonies that we will be including in a digital keepsake of graduation provided to every graduate. In addition, teachers may be asking for parents and/or students to provide pictures, so please watch for any such communication from teachers.
We will continue to fine-tune the logistics of our graduation plan over the next few weeks and will provide you with the detailed guidelines of our drive-thru ceremony before June 2nd. In the meantime, you are welcome to borrow a graduation gown on Tuesday, May 19th between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. on the curb in front of Boulder Creek. Please pull to the curb and remain in your car until a staff member helps you.

2020-2021 TEACHER REQUESTS
While Boulder Creek is moving forward with accepting teacher requests for 2020-2021, please keep in mind that the current on-campus closure and social distancing requirements will require that we utilize a digital format for building classes. Teacher requests may or may not be able to be used for the coming school year. We will do our best to make this work.
Please click HERE if you wish to complete and submit a teacher request form. A teacher request is not necessary for Transitional Kindergarten (TK) or middle school teachers as we have only one TK class and one teacher per subject matter in middle school. All teacher request forms must be submitted by Friday, May 22nd at 4:00 p.m.
POWER SCHOOL PARENT PORTAL
By now, you should have received a letter from the district office about creating an account in the PowerSchool parent portal. The letter contains a unique username and password for each of your students, so you will want to hang onto it until you set up your account. Why do you need to create a parent account? This is a secure platform through which you will receive your child’s report card. This will also allow you to register any new students or transfer students to another one of our district schools. You do not need to re-register your student if they are returning to the same school next year. You will use this account to fill out an electronic emergency card when the new school year begins. In the future, this is also how state testing results will be communicated. We have created how-to videos for you on our website, and you can always email help@eesd.net or call your school if you need further assistance.

STRUGGLING ACCESSING YOUR CHILD'S CURRICULUM?
HAVING INTERNET ISSUES?
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs)
Q: Is my middle school child supposed to be receiving grades in PowerGrade/PowerSchool right now?
A: Middle School teachers will continue to maintain their Power School grade books, mostly as they have in the past. Most teachers have resumed including grades for missing work, as this is how many parents have expressed they learn how much their child has been participating. Participation in distance learning will look different on the final report card, however, familiar communication about assignments in PowerSchool is what has been requested by many parents.
If you have any concerns about your child(s) grades, please feel free to contact the teacher(s) directly. They will be happy to assist you.
Q: Will new Kindergarten assessments still take place in May as planned?
A: Due to the current public health and safety restrictions, face to face Kindergarten assessments scheduled for May 2020 will not take place at that time. We will make another attempt to schedule these assessments in early August. Pre-Kindergarten summer packets will be available for pick-up for all 2020-2021 TK and Kindergarten students to work on Kindergarten readiness skills over the summer. Thank you for your patience.
Q: When will I be able to retrieve personal items my child has left in his/her desk at school?
A: Tuesday, May 19th from 9:00-3:00 curbside in the front parking lot
Q: Will there be a 2020-2021 teacher request week?
A: There will be a teacher request week May 18th-22nd. Please watch the May 18th newsletter for directions about how to request and submit the digital teacher request form.
Q: My child would like to turn in their enrichment packet that was completed before Spring Break. We will be able to turn in this packet?
A: If your child feels they want to turn in their packet given to them during the first week of closure, they may do so during any of our Library Book Return Dates. Please leave in the marked box.
Q: Why am I receiving late notices for overdue library books when school is closed and I have no way to return books?
A: Our library system has a feature that automatically generates and sends overdue library notices. We turned off this feature for a while, but now that we have scheduled library book drop-off days we will turn it back on so students and parents have an awareness of the books that need to be returned.
Q: I ordered spring pictures. How and when will I receive them?
A: Spring pictures have arrived at Boulder Creek! If you ordered spring pictures, they will be available with any other personal items that your child left in his/her classroom on Tuesday, May 19th from 9:00-3:00.
Q: I ordered a yearbook. Will BC still have one for 2019-20?
A: The answer is yes. Lifetouch has communicated that if we do not return to school this school year, they will arrange for a late pick-up or they will mail the books directly to families who ordered one. The last day to order was April 19, 2020.
