Winter Conditions & Pick-up/Drop-off
- BE PATIENT
- BE CONSIDERATE of others
- BE PATIENT
- ONLY pick up and drop off on the same side of the street as the building. DO NOT park and have your child cross busy streets. This also backs up traffic.
- BE PATIENT
We appreciate your help in being part of the solution in ensuring our students are safe. Thank you.

Franklin Students Creating Holiday Cards for Subs
(This story was on the CRCSD's Facebook page)
Students at Franklin Middle School honored their substitute teachers with handmade holiday cards. The students wanted to thank the teachers who have been helping to support their learning this fall. The student designs highlighted their gratitude.
“One of the hardest jobs in education is being a substitute teacher at the middle school level,” explained Principal Lucas Ptacek. “Education is all about relationships and it’s often difficult coming into a building to students they’ve never met. We’re fortunate to have a wonderful group of subs that have been in our building throughout this year and past years. This was a way for our students to give back, thank them for their hard work, and wish them a happy holiday.”
Hy-Vee Receipts: Homeroom Receipt Challenge
We will conduct another Homeroom Receipt Challenge. Save those receipts and contribute to your child's homeroom. The Challenge will be January 9-13.

District Facilities Master Planning
Recently, public forums were held at Kennedy, Washington, and Jefferson to begin community dialogue on the Facilities Master Plan. The district's “Re-imagine, Re-envision, and Re-invest” Facilities Master Planning effort was launched by a number of important factors and is supported and directed by the Board of Education. These include:
- ever-increasing pressure on funding streams to support facility needs and improvements,
- potential replacement of schools,
- the possibility of needing new school facilities, necessary changes within the learning environment, and
- the location of District families within the community.
A Master Facilities Committee, including parents, students, employees, business and industry leaders, and other community members, began meeting earlier this fall, both as a large group and in sub-committee discussions. Conversations have been focused on the key topics of: finance, program offerings, grade configuration, new schools/school renovations, and criteria for closing or re-purposing schools. The public forums will provide an opportunity for Committee members to share that work and to bring additional voices to the conversation. A proposed District Facilities Plan is expected to be submitted to the Board of Education next fall.
You can learn more about the process – and read columns spotlighting the work of each sub-committee at http://www.cr.k12.ia.us/master-facilities-sub-committee-share-updates/
A community input survey related focused on the facilities master planning effort will also be available on the District’s website from Dec. 13-30, 2016. The link is above.
