Field Flash
April 19, 2024
Dear Field Parents and Guardians,
We hope you've had a nice week! Please mark your calendars for Friday, April 26th to send your child with a small blanket or towel for a picnic-style lunch. Each month, we celebrate students' learning as it relates to a social-emotional theme. This month is "cooperation" and practicing how to build friendships with these skills of cooperation. Students voted that they'd like a picnic lunch where they can sit with friends from their grade level (not just their class). If it rains, we'll picnic inside our lunchrooms.
We were so glad to host many parents this week at our Incoming Kindergarten Orientation. If you weren't able to join us, please know we emailed the presentation slides to families. Contact our main office with any questions.
A few important reminders are listed below:
As a reminder, school registration for next year closed March 22. If you haven't registered and are planning to return, please reach out to Ruth in our main office ASAP.
PLEASE leave your dogs at home during drop off and pick up. We've had a few scary interactions lately with big dogs and adults/children.
The school calendar for next school year (2024-2025) is published on the District website: https://www.d64.org/about/calendar-overview. Please be sure to review it prior to making summer plans. Students first day of school is August 14th.
You can access your child's report card via these instructions: PowerSchool Parent Portal Directions to see Report Cards
Have a wonderful weekend!
Sincerely,
Dr. Courtney Goodman
Principal

Our Lost & Found is Full!
We've relocated our Lost & Found to the main office, so please stop by next week to check for any of your child(ren)'s missing items. It is very full! We will donate all items at the end of the day on April 26th.

A Message From Dr. Collins: Master Facilities Plan
For the past six months, we have been taking a hard look at our Master Facilities Plan and the needs our students and staff have now and in the future. Through many meetings with staff, community stakeholders, law enforcement, and our architects, we have identified areas where our safety, security, health, critical infrastructure, and, in some cases, classrooms are not meeting our current and future needs. Our school district has done everything possible to address these issues without our current budget, and we are at the point where we are considering doing major renovations in these areas with additional funding in the form of a referendum in the future.
The School Board will make a decision later this summer about which path we will take forward, and to be transparent about our needs, we are hosting the following community engagement events, where I will lay out the issues we face and our proposed solutions. Each one of these sessions will include time for Q&A. If you plan on attending any event, please RSVP so we can plan and have the proper setup.
We have also designed a webpage that provides information, past presentations, and other useful tools that we want to share with you. To help our community better understand the state of our facilities, we have made video tours of our buildings, the first one of which is a look at Lincoln Middle School. Those resources can be found at d64.org/2024proposal. As we continue exploring this possibility, you can always reach out to me directly with any questions at bcollins@d64.org.
Our schools are community resources that have existed for nearly 100 years (Roosevelt, Field, and Lincoln will all turn 100 soon), and we want to protect our buildings, protect our children, and preserve our future.

School Attendance Matters
While we understand illness can keep children home from school, please make an effort to plan vacations, doctors' appointments, and other events outside of the school day or school year.
Rainbows Student Peer Group
A local Rainbows peer group was recently initiated to provide a safe space for students in 1st - 8th grade to share their experiences associated with loss of a loved one and/or a changing family dynamic due to divorce, deployment, etc. Trained facilitators help encourage communication while identifying, navigating and discussing feelings amongst the group. A second session of the program will begin in September of 2024. Each session is 12 weeks long, meeting weekly in the evening for 1 hour.
Please note, we are looking for more volunteers to help facilitate these peer groups. Teachers will receive CPDU credits! Any interest or questions please contact Justine Karl, 847-340-1741 or Phyllis Lubinki, 312-659-6226
Please fill out this Google form to sign up and/or to be added to our communication list.
April is Healthy Living Month
April is healthy living month! Each week, we will have a different focus for students. You can read more about that here. Here's our first week's focus.
Week 4: Screen Free Week(April 22-28)
This week's focus is how we spend our free time. Students are challenged to spend their free time this week in activities that do not require using a device with a screen (reading a book, taking a walk, playing a board game, playing a sport, etc.).
