Student Engagement
8th grade ELA classes just finished Unit 1A with the story, "Tell Tale Heart," and held a mock trial, where kids were able to participate as a defense team, a prosecution team, investigators, and jurors. Teachers acted as the judges and textual evidence had to be presented from both sides to support their claims about the character called the narrator. They had to prove whether the narrator was "guilty by reason of insanity" or "guilty of 1st degree murder" in which case they would head straight to jail.
The students had a couple of days to prepare and find textual evidence in the story to either support their side or in the case of the investigators, find evidence to prove how the narrator was acting when they came to investigate the crime. Fun was had by all and the students were engaged in a real life experience that opened their eyes as to how our court system works. Some of the students really got into their roles and we may see them as future lawyers some day!
Kirby Education Scholarship Program
Fall Assembly
A great time was had by all during our Fall Assembly on Monday, October 28!
Basketball and Volleyball
Great job to our Girls' Basketball and Boys' Volleyball teams. They are all off to an awesome start!
Fire Safety
6th grade students were provided a fire safety lesson by Fireman Jim from the Tinley Park Fire Department. The students really enjoyed the lesson and learned many important fire safety tips.
