Culture PBL Phase 3
We learned so much about each country. We loved having our parent experts teach us and researching these places. For the final phase of our project, we made postcards or brochures to give to people if they wanted to travel to these places. We included places to visit, hotels, words to know, and pictures. We invited parents in, Mrs. Ricketts, Mrs. Morales, Mrs. Cole's kindergarten class, Mrs. Nulph's second-grade class, and Mrs. Daniel's first-grade class.
Standards covered throughout this PBL (project based learning)
Comparing (dollars and coins, money amounts, clothes, food, cultures, buildings, cities)
Researching
Similarities and differences between texts
Writing with support, build an understanding of a topic using various sources
Ask and answer questions about the main topic
Make predictions
Observations
Compare children and families of today with those from the past
Identify people, celebrations, commemorations, and holidays as a way of honoring people, language, and events.
Thank you from Ms. Janice at the Dayspring Center
I had to share this sweet email from one of the volunteers from the Dayspring Center. I am proud of your kids for seeing this vision and working towards this goal!! Read below :)
Good evening Ms. Norton & Ms. Daniel,
I would like to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude for allowing your classes to participate in a such a wonderful experience of sharing. Education is only worth its value when it is put into action. The students took a vision and accomplished its goal by doing something that they believed in. From the beginning of the vision to the completion of the vision so much HOPE, PLAY, and LOVE was seen. Please allow us to express to your school, the parents, the students and to you both as teachers that success has already been achieved through the actions of this expression. At the completion of the renovation of the playroom we will take and place the beautiful gift of hands artwork in its spot and we will take photographs so the children can see what a beautiful place it is placed in. Please let me know what will be the best email address to send the photographs to upon the playroom completion.
Thank you,
Janice Williamson Cox

Famous African Americans
We wrapped up Black History Month in February by letting the students choose a famous African American to learn more about. I am excited to see what the students learn and share with others.
March= Disability Month
Autism- how others brains can work differently than ours
Deaf- how they communicate with others and how hearing aids may help them
Physical Disability- people may look different than us, but we should not treat them any differently. We watched a video with a friend who had cerebral palsy, another friend who was born with only 1 walkable leg.
