News from W.O.W.
Way to go Prairie Point, Walk on Wednesday was a success! 62% of our
students walked to school and Mrs. Warner's second grade class won the
golden shoe trophy for most walkers. We also walk at recess so those
unable to join us in the morning can earn a walker keychain. Thanks to
those parents that help at recess!!!
Daily Attendance
Your child’s daily, on-time attendance is critical to their success in school. And while some challenges to your child’s school attendance are unavoidable, it’s important to understand the impact of each absence.
Attending school every day increases a child’s chances of success in school and in life.

We are excited to be hosting two authors this month. On Oct. 20th, Bruce Coville will speak to 3rd and 4th grade classes about his newest book, Hatched, which is the second in his “Enchanted Files” series. The following day Jon Klassen will present to our half-day kindergarten and to our first grade students. He will talk about the newest book in his ‘hat’ series, titled We Found a Hat. These visits are made possible by Anderson’s Bookstore in Naperville. All Prairie Point students are invited to order these books (see order forms below).
Our Fall Book Fair will be held from Monday, October 24th until Friday, October 28th. We will need volunteers for set-up on Friday, Oct. 21st and pack up on Friday, Oct. 28th as well as on Wed. Oct 26 prior to Home and School BINGO night (NOT Family Walk Night as stated on the volunteer form that went home in Thursday folders.) More information on book fair hours will be sent home with students prior to the fair.
As part of the book fair, students may pre-order the newest book in the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series, Double Down. These books will be delivered to Prairie Point on November 1st. Cost of the book with tax is $15.03. Checks must be payable to Anderson’s.
Thank you to Brody Main and family for their book donation from the “Eerie Elementary” series!
Our pumpkin gallery is growing daily! Students are invited to continue bringing pumpkins decorated to represent a book character. We’d like to have all pumpkins by October 14th if possible. And remember, only fake/decorative pumpkins may be used.

Home & School President's Letter
What an exciting beginning of the year we have had. I’m so proud and grateful to belong to an amazing school. Thank you to our parents who donated food for the staff for curriculum night. It’s a long day for our teachers and staff and I know they appreciated the meal.
Our first collection for Box Tops happened in September. We will have two more collections later in the school year..
We donated more food than we ever have to the Kendall County Community Food Pantry, over 1000 more items than last year. And out of 22 schools in our district, we ranked 6th! I love that our kids were really involved with the drive through the theme days. Thank you to our committee chairs, Kristen Sanders and Kaisa Norwood, to Maureen Dehler for counting every day, Steve Whitlock for helping load a carry boxes and to Laurel Holpuch for guidance. Great team effort.
Also in September, we held our Panther Fitness Olympic Challenge. Unfortunately, weather was not on our side and we had to move the event inside, but that didn’t dampen spirits. Students danced, exercised and enjoyed the obstacles of our Olympic course. It was such an exciting day. We blew last year’s total away raising $17,458.75! That is our second highest donation total since we’ve began this event. 7 classrooms brought in over $900.00. Mrs. Tellone’s kindergarten class raised the most money, $1,548.60. And 11 classrooms had over 70% of the students turn in packets! Mrs. Paluch, our participation winner, had 92% of her class turn in packets. Those are really big numbers. The students met the school goal and our principals will be spending a day on the roof next week! Let’s hope for good weather for them.
I would like to thank the many parent volunteers who helped at the challenge, the local sponsors whose donations covered all of our expenses, the staff who encouraged their students, especially Mr. Hafenrichter for setting up the sound system, Mrs. Warren for letting us use her PE equipment and Mr. Whitlock for helping us so many times throughout the month – we’ve lost count. Lastly, I want to thank Sarah Eggers and Karen Kelly for their hard work helping chair a fulfilling event.
October kicks off our Great Art program. Thank you to all of you who have signed up to volunteer. If you haven’t volunteered for Great Art, it really is a fun, rewarding activity. For our first Tuesday night dinner of the month, we are working with Lou Malnati’s on October 11th. We are holding our first Health & Wellness night for kindergarten and first grade students and families on October 12th. Family Fun Bingo night will be held in conjunction with the book fair again this year, on October 26th. This will be a great night for the entire family. Look for the flier coming home soon.
Kuddos to our beautification committee for the fall decorations, our marquee master for always keeping us informed, our Terra Cycle volunteer who collects the pouches and our parents who stuff Thursday folders. So much goes on behind the scenes and we are grateful for your contribution.
Until next month . . .

Students& Parents-join us in the TerraCycle Drink Pouch Brigade!
TerraCycle upcycles and recycles traditional waste including drink pouches (such as Capri Sun, Kool Aid, Honest Kids, etc.) into a variety of consumer products. These products keep waste out of our landfills and contribute to a cleaner world. Here at Prairie Point, there are two easy ways to collect juice pouches at school and at home.
Students: After your lunch, simply place your empty pouches in the collection bin in the school cafeteria. No need to remove the straws!
Parents: Save your pouches at home and stop into the school foyer and deposit them into the Capri Sun collection box. Also-remind your child to place them in the collection bin during their lunch period.
Together we can help save the planet and earn money for our school.
Small efforts can make a difference!
