The Herald
Hoboken Public School District
Superintendent's Weekly Message - November 22, 2019
As we close out the week, I wish you a relaxing and enjoyable extended weekend with your families and friends. As always, the past five days were filled with engaging and meaningful learning activities at all levels. In this week's edition of The Herald, I have included quarterly newsletters from each of our schools. Take time to read each of our schools' newsletters. Each captures the wonderful work being done by our staff and students.
In addition, you will see highlights from the Middle School Musical, Seussical Jr. and the school's trip to Liberty Science Center. You will see photos from our Diwali Assemblies, the High School Community Dinner, and our students' attendance at the Kean University Student Leadership Conference. Take note of Hoboken High School's canned food drive for Thanksgiving and the upcoming blood drive. And, don't miss out on the information presented about the Hoboken Public Education Foundation! I also hope you do not miss the sneak peek of Hoboken High School's February Play, The Wolves.
As you read The Herald, I sincerely wish that you are as thankful and grateful as I am for all of the opportunities that our students are being given. From PGP workshops on health related topics, to experiences to bolster college readiness and finally unique learning opportunities such as the Gay Straight Alliance and The Pulsera Project, the quality of education cannot and should not be judged solely on test scores.
I encourage you to take time and review the remainder of The Herald. Follow us on Twitter and Facebook too. Each week, you will see that I highlight one or two schools so that every family has the chance to learn about the entire district. Over the past two weeks, I have highlighted each of our schools in The Herald. In this addition, I have included a range of items from across the district.
Have a wonderful weekend. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at your convenience.
Sincerely,
Superintendent Johnson

The Pulsera Project
La Sociedad Honoraria de Hoboken High School and other clubs will participate in the Pulsera Project service learning initiative from November 11, 2019 to November 25, 2019. The Pulsera Project is a nonprofit organization that educates, empowers, and connects Central American artists with students in more than 2,800 U.S. schools through the sale of colorful hand woven bracelets, or "pulseras" in Spanish. The organization buys handwoven pulseras from nearly 200 artists in Nicaragua & Guatemala, employing them in full-time jobs with fair trade wages, and providing a market for their products in the United States. They are working with our classes and clubs to throughout this pulsera school sale that will support these artists while our students learn about fair trade and social justice issues in Latin America. Many thanks to Mrs. De La Rosa for bringing this initiative and awareness to students and school.
